Your Lines?

Postby Pensfan4life27 on Mon Oct 06, 2008 8:26 am

So after watching two games in Sweden...how does everyone see the Pens doing their top 4 lines and first PP unit? I dont think Fedetenko should be on the top line...Crosby seems to be like ummm where are my wingers at?

Satan - Crosby - Kennedy (doesn't Kennedy deserve a look?)
Staal - Malkin - Sykora (really should be our 1st line)
Cooke - Talbot - Dupis (very well created 3rd line who does their job...Forecheck!)
Goodard - Bis - Fedetenko (who knows??)

With the lineup above something seems out of place...I dont agree with fedo and satan with crosby. Maybe switch Cooke and Fedetenko and then put Dupis on the 4th line? Who knows?

PP Unit...Id say put Satan - Crosby - Malkin down low and rotate GoGo and Letang with why not Staal at the point? I dont think Malkin should be a point man...I just see SH goals coming to much this season.

Satan - Crosby - Kennedy (doesn't Kennedy deserve a look?) --- Sure
Staal - Malkin - Sykora (really should be our 1st line) --- No it shouldn't. Crosby is our #1 center.
Cooke - Talbot - Dupis (very well created 3rd line who does their job...Forecheck!) - I'd put Feds here instead of DUPUIS
Goodard - Bis - Fedetenko (who knows??) - What?

Fedotenko-Crosby-Satan
Staal-Malkin-Sykora
Cooke-Talbot-Kennedy
Godard-Taffe/Thomas-Dupuis

I hate to mess around with that effective third line, but I think Kennedy adds more to that line than Dupuis. As for the first line, I'm willing to give Fedo and Satan more than 2 games, which were overseas, to gain chemistry with 87. People are really freaking out over 2 games against a very formidable opponent, in which we got out with a split. Let's not do too much with the lines and see how things go for the first couple at the Igloo.

What happened to the line 1a and line 1b mentality? =)

And I do believe Staal - Malkin - Sykora will be the Pens best line.

I agree with putting Kennedy on the 3rd line instead of Dupuis. Kennedy deserves a shot to get more ice time...

Taffe was horrible in the first game...As was Sydor...Good to see they were both benched...

I don't have that mentality. Crosby is our number 1 center.

I also agree that line will be great....so, either way...it doesn't bother me.

I agree. 11-71-17 is our best line. And they also have chemistry already built together. Crosby may be the #1 center. But, Staal-Malkin-Sykora is our best line. And there is no reason for Fedotenko to get demoted. Him, Crosby, and Satan should get more than 2 games to gain chemistry. It takes time to adjust to playing alongside one of the best players in the world. Case in point, Marian Hossa.

Lines for Saturday:

Fedotenko-Crosby-Satan
Staal-Malkin-Sykora
Cooke-Talbot-Dupuis
Thomas-Kennedy-Bissonette

Way too early to panic. Play a smart game, work on getting some flow and chemistry for another week or two, then fiddle if you need to. For now however, see what this line-up can do on NHL ice, after a week or so of rest.

And they didn't pay Mark Eaton 2 mil/season to sit in the press box. If he's healthy, he's playing. And I still don't understand all this line-juggling. We are 1-1 people. Give it some friggin time before jumping to conclusions and trying to change the whole makeup of the lineup.

Hopefully Kelly Clarkson will throw down with Godard this weekend.

Nor did they pay Orpik what they did to put him on the bottom pairing with Sydor. So yeah, I agree - there is no reason to panic after two games, in Europe.

The oversight was entirely intentional. Satan is a dog who has no business collecting an NHL salary.

^ Letang and Orpik have been just fine. And I also don't understand why any one would put Sydor over Eaton. Eaton at his best, is like another goalie without goalie pads out there. I'll take him over Sydor any day of the week.

Oh come on. That is so nonsensical. You are seriously going to sit there and judge him after just two games??? Once again, let's wait a few more games before jumping to conclusions. It's not exactly the easiest situation coming over to a new team and being inserted into the first line to play alongside one of the best players in the world. It's a process that takes time and requires patiency from Penguins fans.

Watching this team play with essentially three lines leaves me to think that the Pens really do need add one more legit fourth liner.

Taffe was nice last year as an injury fill-in, but how often did he play in the playoffs? And Thomas is a nice story, but is he really what we want/need on that line?

I'd like to see a faceoff specialist with some defensive skills and a high-paced, gritty game. Put him on a line with Kennedy and Bissonnette/Godard, and the Penguins could roll four line like they did last year.

I realize Kennedy has played well, but if the fourth line is basically line 3B, he'd be fine getting 10-15 minutes a night.

Agreed...They could use one more forward that can actually play...Getting Sykora back obviously helps with the depth. But they could still use a center that can actually win a face off and kill some penalties if needed...

We seriously have to figure something out about the 4th line. One reason why I liked BGL so much was because you could put him on the ice and he'd grind away and play good hockey. I think he had my favorite goal last year when he just roofed it... I don't remember who we played. I haven't made up my mind yet about Godard or Biss.

I'm very glad to see you have Pesonen on Crosby's line. I would give Satan another couple of games there.

Pesonen would help the powerplay quite a bit, I think. And getting Sykora back would also help the PP a lot, of course.

I would keep Cooke on the 3rd line .. with Fedotenko and Talbot as his linemates, and I would put Dupuis on the 4th line.

Like most people said, I'd give Satan some more time with Sid. But he sure looked very John LeClair-ish over the weekend. If he keeps that up I could see Pesonen getting a shot. And I do want a good look at Kennedy with Crosby.

there's not a lot to figure out right now. sykora is out so you get a jobber player in his place and nothing clicks. like last year with the legendary string of fringe nhl'ers we paraded through the lineup last winter when everyone was injured.

when we're healthy, kennedy, fedotenko, dupuis or talbot will drop, making the line better. wait till it's a real line before judging it.
