Also, Tampa, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Buffalo have been rumoured to have interest in Bryan Berard.

Eklund said it.

That essentially means there is no chance in hell Berard is coming to Pittsburgh.

But sure, I wouldn't mind it on a two way deal.

Actually, I suggested this earlier...I wouldn't mind him patchworking our power play for a few months...useless defensively...

Also, we'd have a common enemy: Marian Hossa.

I would look into it as well...Power play specialist only though...

I'm surprised you would go for it though mikey. I was expecting to see Berard is puke, we don't need him etc... :D

He would actually help out on the PP.

but the problem is...we are so loaded defensively, do we need to add another guy here? No. Gogo gadget hockey player is the way to go.

Yeah, I was going to ask how people feel about him. I mean, Gill, Orpik, and Scuds are our 3 defensive guys. That means either Eaton or Sydor would have to be traded to make room for Berard. We could then go with the 3 defensive guys and 3 offensive... Letang, Go, and Berard.

I'd like that much better than 4 defensive guys in the lineup and only 2 offensive.

I'm surprised as well...but people don't really understand how talented Berard is offensively...he's had a lot of trouble putting it altogether and that eye injury doesn't help...but if we could just go, "listen, make pucks go in" to BB he could be effective...

He also doesn't cost us an asset...and with a push of a button he can be whisked (is that the word? probably not) away and never heard from again...

Goligoski

4 NHL games

1G, 2A

He will get better and better as the year goes on. Just give him some practice. From what I saw on sunday it looks like AG is going to be better on the PP then Letang, if he isn't already.

Go is going to be great, but we have a dynamic group of forwards and I would really like to have more creativity on the blue line. 4 defensive guys just isn't to my liking.

Also, what if something happens to him or Letang. Whitney's out for what... 2 or 3 months? If we have a chance to get a guy like Berard right now for nothing, I think it's something Shero should seriously consider. I haven't watched him closely in the last few years, but I trust mikey's judgement..... if says he's still a quality player, then he probably is.

I wouldn't be against it if the power play is still struggling in a couple weeks but it's way too early in the season to be making what could easily be called a panic move.

When you bring in a guy like Berard, you may be showing the wrong message to the youngsters Letang and Goligoski. It would make them feel like the organization has no trust in them. While, I wouldn't be completely opposed to bringing in Berard, it just seems completely unnecessary. There's no doubt we should wait a couple more games to see if this team is coming together or not.

Only 2 games in, almost a week off, back on North American soil and back "home" in "our" barn...I think I will wait until the team actually struggles before suggesting so many changes.

I really liked what I saw from GoGo. Give him time.

This is the unfortunate player who has reduced vision in an eye? No, moving on.
They need P Sykora back. He was having a fabulous training camp until his bronchial /cold illness slowed him down.

I'd actually like to see Berard on this team with the loss of Gonchar and Whitney for the better part of the season.

No point to go that route unless Letang, Goligoski, and Sydor outright fail, and no, you can't tell that after two games. I still maintain there's too much talent here for the PP to struggle long term. There might be an adjustment period, especially when you're dealing with inexperienced players, but it's not going to last.

Yes we do. I think we've severely underrated Sarge (or at least some of us), and marginally underrated Whitney.

I honestly think we'll miss them more at even strength, offensively. No Gonch and Whit means a lot more of guys like Eaton, Gill, Scuds, Orpik working with the top two lines to create offense and work the cycle and pinch in to create odd-man rushes.

I agree 100% with this statement. I like Letang also, but Goligoski can handle the puck, make some plays and has a decent shot. The more he plays the better he will get. For now he should be on the 1st power play unit with Malkin on the other point. Letang should be on the 2nd unit.

I like the Berard idea if only because they need help on the PP. I would bring him in and make him a power play specialist a la Paul Coffey in the '91 playoffs. He would not play at even strength. You dress seven D and maybe skate him at forward a bit. But since the fourth line sees so little time anyway, you could dress Berard instead of either Bissonnette or Godard and still have him just for PP/fourth line duty.
