U.S.S. Gill and Scuds...

Postby npv708 on Thu Oct 16, 2008 11:57 pm

I was at the game tonight and i noticed something that I couldn't wrap my mind around and that was that Scuderi and Gill got a ton of ice time tonight. So I got home and looked it up on nhl.com and it proved me right...

here are our d pairings ice times:

Letang - 16:39
Orpik - 17:01
Eaton - 15:42
Gogo - 18:43
Gill - 22:40
Scuds - 22:15

It seemed like everytime Sid's line was out on the ice so was scuds and gill, and they were even out there towards the end when the clock was winding down... Now why in the world are two of our truly non-offensive dmen out on the ice that much, if were not falling back on trying to be defensive and not offensive. No wonder why MT was questioned, that just can't happen. I'm a pretty big Gill supporter, and have really started to come around on scuds so far this year, but they should not be getting this ice time, especially when were down...

Whats UP with that?

Could be because they were defending Ovie too, and not sure if it was as noticeable from the stands - but they did a helluva job.

They were out there against Ovechkin. They did a good job, too.

Scuds shut down AO, that is my guess as to why he had so much ice time. Makes sense to have him out there when AO is out there.

It's too bad the rest of the team just gave up in the 3rd period...

To be fair, Gill did an excellent job of shutting down Ovechkin, in the same get-in-the-way-of-the-finesse way he used to shut down Jagr, and Scuds had a few good defensive plays. I think MT was just rewarding strong games and they'll go back to their normal ice time.

ya, scuds definitely did a good job, but when were down, shouldn't we have some offense out there?

It helped that AO set up a nice little camp at the offensive blueline. All Scuderi had to do was stand next to him. Dude was never in the defensive zone.

Yeah. That was a poor performance from ovechkin.

Also scuds did a great job one-on-one with him.
