From the looks of things, Ovechkin seems more intent on stoking the flames of the competition against Malkin, which will bear monitoring in the run-up the 2010 Olympics, when both will be mainstays of the Russian team.

"It's nothing special," said Ovechkin, with a shrug. "I just play hard.

"If not Malkin, it's someone else - I hit them, too. Nothing personal. I like him, he's my friend, but when we go to the ice, we're not friends, we're rivals."

From that link:

Ovechkin also talked about being an Internet junkie and liking nothing better than visiting a number of websites, from the Caps' own highly evolved one to the Russian hockey sites, to see what fans are saying on the message boards.

LOL I wonder if he comes here?

Why is the Caps site, which is just another built on the NHL template "highly evolved" in any way that's worth mentioning?

Seriously, and this is a true question and not an attempt at sarcasm... I didn't see the boarding thing, so did that happen first and that is why Ovie was after him? Because that might explain the sudden hatred Ovie has for Malkin.

Well, given that Ovie was trying to decapitate him last year as well, I think the notion of "sudden" doesn't fly.

It's amazing, though, that he seems to find AT LEAST 3 opportunities every game to get Malkin lined up for one of those runs. But yet, no one in black and gold has yet to find ONE opportunity to ever lay into Ovie. Seriously, are you telling me that Orpik couldn't use one shift to just isolate him and deliver an enormous hit?

Until you make him pay for running Malkin, he will keep doing it.

Is it all b/c Ovie is a superstar? Would MT tell them to avoid hitting him?
