Staal salary question

Postby Jim on Wed Oct 22, 2008 12:15 pm

I am started a new thread because I didn't want this to be a "what is Staal worth" topic, but an actual question.

Staal's base salary is $0.85M and his bonuses are and additional $1.35M for a total possible $2.2M. I would have to think that he met all his cryteria his rookie year and got the full amount (or near to). Does anyone think he got it last year? I do not know what the structure of the bonuses are so I do not know myself.

Yeah, cojac is right. His "cap hit" is $2.2MM. What his actual salary is I'm not sure. It is between $850,000 and $2,200,000 though...

The "cap hit" for this season is $2.2 million, as it was for previous seasons, until the bonuses become mathematically unachieveable...in which case, the applicable bonuses and money tied to said bonuses come off of our books...

It appears that Staal counted for $1,875,000 in 06-07...but I'm not sure about 07-08 yet...

At this rate he will owe the Pens money at the end of the year.

lol agreed....His qualifying offer of 10% increase (if that still is the rule) is too much of a raise :P

Although I realize the tongue-in-cheek post, since Staal's last salary was $850,000 (or whatever) he's only entitled to 105% of his previous salary...so, in order to retain his rights we'd need to offer $892,500...110% is for players that made less than $660,000 (IIRC) in the season prior...
