I don't doubt it authenticity having seen so many people respond to it, but somehow I missed it and want to circle back to the story.

thanks

RS should have sent him to Ottawa (they are looking for puck moving defenseman) for Alexander Nikulin...
even if he couldnt transition to play wing he was the fourth rated russian in the draft behind ovechkin and malkin...
depth pick up for WBS at least if he could have dealt with that...

Too late, he went for a former Pen prospect in Drew Fata. He can't be that good then

I have not seen this Sydor trade request anywhere else. What's up with that?

Jeez.

I was reading this thread title, and I thought it said Sykora for a second. I almost threw up there.

We should change the title to Eaton instead of Sydor.

I would rather keep Sydor who's contract expires after this year, then have Eaton for another year making $2MM

Gill/Sydor coming off the books that's almost $5MM

you can't trade eaton.

next year we have gonchar, whitney, orpik, letang, goligoski and eaton. that's it. scuderi will get a better offer elsewhere. sydor will be golfing. and gill will be in tampa bay. we need eaton's contract and we need it bad.

I disagree. Pens can easily move Eaton and survive...Like you stated. Pens already have 5 D under contract next year, not including Scuderi...If they need a 5-7 type of d man. They don't need to spend $2MM for that...

Why are we even discussing trading away ANY of the defensemen right now? It's not going to happen, with the Pens being one injury away from having to call up a guy from WB/S.

Good ones cost that much. Eaton missed half of the last two seasons and got that much, and he may have taken under market value to stay here. Don't think Scuderi won't get more from someone this summer. Besides, Pens fans should know better than most how important it is to have good depth. The moment they signed Eaton, the thing I thought about was how important it'd be to have him under contract through next season with Scuderi and Gill most likely moving on. I know Eaton isn't the flavor of the month at the moment, but he's a solid defensive defenseman. He's a bargain compared to the contracts guys like Finger and Salvador got.

For example:

The Kings picked up Kyle Quincey off waivers from the Wings. He is signed through next year for $550,000. He is a big tough, stay at home defenseman.

Not everyone needs to make $2MM to be good. You have to do some digging once in a while, which Shero does...

He didn't want to play in the AHL for Ottawa - why would he for the Pens? He doesn't want to pay his dues on North American soil - he isn't worth it.

I like Sydor, but I agree that he needs traded when whitney or gonchar get back.

losing sydor's salary makes it easier to add shanahan and/or have flexibility at the deadline to add guys who aren't just rentals.

He's got to be in the 2-3 million dollar range, right?

I'd guess he has to be in the 2-3 million range. I mean he's on of those guys you never notice, and that's a good thing. Most of the time makes the smart play and is really sound positionally.

All Scuderi needs to do is take a puck to the face and keep playing in that game and he'll be a $3-4 million guy. I'm actually partially serious there. Just being on a good team will drive up his value. The farther the Pens go the better for him. I don't think there's any chance Adam Hall gets a three year deal if the Pens don't make the Finals last year.

Corvidae wrote:Not unexpected.

Defenseman Darryl Sydor, who returned to the lineup this past week due to Hal Gill's injury, has asked the Penguins for a trade. Sydor knows substantial ice-time won't come with the Penguins, especially when injured defenseman Ryan Whitney returns in December from a foot injury. The Penguins will be more willing to move Sydor upon Whitney's return.

yeah, i totally saw this coming. I mean come on, Letang and Goligoski make it into the lineup before he does. Personally, i am not for the Goligoski over Sydor thing, but its working, so what the hey
