Crosby ups work ethic

Here is what Penguins center Sidney Crosby did at a fast-paced practice, a day after a 2-1 loss to San Jose in which he had an assist but no shots for the eighth time in his career and had one of his less successful nights in the faceoff circle, winning four and losing 16:

Crosby was the first one on the ice at HP Pavilion, the second the doors closed behind the Zamboni and almost 20 minutes before practice was due to start.

Before the formal part of the session, he worked against Mike Zigomanis, the team's top faceoff man, taking draws in both directions.

During the final drill -- breakaways followed by a rink-long skate and a place back in line for every shooter who missed -- Crosby scored early, then went to the idle end of the rink to work on chipping passes from the right dot into the slot. Eventually, he recruited rookie defenseman Alex Goligoski to repeatedly slide so Crosby could practice making those chips over a sprawled body.

Nobody could demand more from Sidney than Sidney. He's special.

And that is what I love about that kid. He's constantly doing whatever he can to improve. He misses the net one game, the next day he's out on the ice doing the same move over and over until he gets it in.

This is why I love this team.

Crosby practices tossing small children long distances every day. Just in case it becomes useful on the rink.

Good to see. I hope it translates to the games because for some reason he has not looked like himself so far this year. We need the real Sid back, this is a good sign that he is getting POd

Awesome stuff.

And what made me decide to get up at 3am tomorrow to watch the game vs Phoenix.

I have a real job now, wanting to do good so I usually don't watch the Pens during weekdays this season but what the hey, it's Friday tomorrow and as the game ends at 6am I could just consider it an early morning =) Sid's pissed off and I'm not missing it.

I hope you are right! This game could be a breakout for him AND Malkin.

Do the second and fourth leading scorers in the league really need breakouts? Sadly yes. They have yet to really put up numbers apart. Hopefully their lines can get going tonight.

This made me laugh. Perhaps some rookie hazing? It sounds like he made Goli get up, skate, slide - get up, skate, slide...and if crosby messes up than he gets hit with a puck. Good stuff.

Besides not shooting near enough, Crosby needs to use his great ability to just get the puck to the front of the net a lot more frequently, especially when nothing else is working. Thus, I was glad to see that he is practicing chipping the puck over fallen opponents. Hopefully, his wings will go to the net more often and Crosby will seek to get the puck in there for some garbage goals.

I'm hoping being in the building with #99 adds a little spark to Sid.
