55 & 19 not on LTIR

Postby Tinker on Thu Oct 30, 2008 2:28 pm

What gives?

I would have thought once the minimum duration of their respective recoveries was known, RS would have placed them on Long Term Injured Reserve. I suppose there isn't really a need to do so. However, if they decide to make a move sometime, it would be good to have the space, probably about $5M at least.

Putting players on LTIR does not mean they do not count against the Upper Limit.

yes, it does. A player who is on LTIR does not count against the cap.

Unless you are the flyers where you can use the LTIR as a placeholder for bad personell moves on overpaid mistakes. They have 11mil stashed there which would put them WAY over but as it stands today they are under the cap

I thought Gonchar was placed on LTIR a few weeks ago.

Actually Mikey, you are right, it does not mean they don't count against the cap, it means there is an additional cushion on top of the upper limit of the cap allowing for players on LTIR to be replaced.
