If Staal was a 6th round pick people would be loving him for his awesome PK. Just because he was a number 2 pick people think he should score 50 goals.

I hope Staal is a Penguin for life.

Your attachment for him is because you like him. The only way i'd like staal for life is if he's making 1.5 mill or less per year.

It has nothing to do with scoring 50 goals, it has to do with regressing in lots of areas instead of progressing since his rookie year.

The problem is he WASN'T a 6th round pick. He should at least show some signs of being a competent hockey player. Right now, he isn't. Period.

He brings nothing to the table right now. Other players can kill penalties too, and they weren't first round picks! Heck Mike Zigomanis is doing a pretty decent job killing penalties -- AND he even has a goal this year.

If his last name wasn't Staal no one would care about him, he'd be sitting in the press box or in the AHL, and he wouldn't have been a second overall pick.

Well I agree that his last name probably over hyped him. I guess Shero got played too? Half the minutes Jordan gets is on the PK. So he will generally have less production. WITH that being said.. it makes no sense to me how he got 7 short handle goals at 18, and can't even score 1 goal at 20.

If we trade Staal for a Kovalchuk (and if KovaChoo doesn't sign long term...) then our window of opportunity to win closes by multiple years. If we keep Staal around, maybe by the time he is 25 he will be more complete... giving us the chance to win more championships in the long run.

Come on guys do we really want to turn into the Ottawa Senators in a few years? Just shut down their main 3, and they are garbage.

edit: p.s. like my ducks thread of the year over there? :)

Now that is down right mean.

Staal did set NHL records in his rookie year, just over a 1.5 years ago. I can't wait for him to break out of his slump. I think he can be a dominate player.
