We talk all this crap about Eklund, yet when he posts something new about the Pens, we make a post about it here and even pay mind to it. Hey, I even admit to it. And about Shanny, I wouldn't mind him, but at his age I don't know if he is worth it.

Shanny is a veteran presence. A right handed shot. A great shoot out guy...He can still play...He isn't a dominant force anymore. But if he willing to accept a reduced role then I would investigate it.

I am not sure where he fits in on the team, but it does make a lot of sense.

That looks a little weird, but considering the current turnstile of LWs, anyone theoretically could fit in. Moreover, speed, while generally always good, isn't really a prereq on either of the top 2 lines because 95% of their offense is generated off of dumps, cycles, and board chowder. Just get to a spot in a reasonable amount of time, work at a good rate, and he could be productive. The 3rd lines have been a mishmash of speed and Staal, so I wouldn't think he'd be automatically miscast in a check line role.

So.... I guess I'll move this over here, from the npr Shanny thread.

(This was the last time the Pens came to So. Cal. The Rags were here at the same time. I got to hang out with Shanny after their game.)

You know where Eklund probably got the rumor? From the post I started here last week when he announced that he was looking at other teams. Note that I put it in Non-Penguins related, as it should remain. ;)

After a Stanley Cup run, should Sid be that person.

Plus remember that Gonchar is a vet. And Fedotenko has won a Cup. We definitely aren't lacking the experience. Just because Shannahan is more well known than Fedotenko doesn't mean he has any more of an edge over him in the "war stories" department.

Plus with all the players we have, we don't have room for a story teller. Mario can tell stories.

 OMG! It didn't even occur to me, but the timing works!

So, he just read that Shanny told an anonymous message board poster, a couple of seasons ago, that he'd love to play with Sid, and ran with it as a credible rumor about Shanny coming to the Pens?!?!

That would be hilarious!

FWIW, the Pens are not on the reported list after he turned down an offer from Nashville.

This would be a pointless move for RS to make.

I can imagine the Mark Recchi comparisons already as soon as he misses an open net!

i get that he's a tough dude, but roberts he ain't. the level of intimidation/general mayhem that shanahan can cause isn't even in roberts' league. i don't really get the comparisons.

to the lyrics of Folsom Prison Blues, maybe WDVE or someone can make this come to pass:

I hear that Jaromirs comin'
Hes rollin' 'round the bend,
And He ain't seen the sunshine,
Since, I don't know when,
Hes been stuck in New York City now Russia,
And time keeps draggin' on,
But that Jaromir Jagrs a comin
Back where he belongs.

When he was just a baby,
Mario told him, "Son,
Always be a goal scorer,
Don't ever play with bums,"
Come play with Sid and Geno,
And watch your stats just Fly,
When you hear that horn a blowin',
You be gettin lots of high fives.

Now that Marion;s playin,
In a city for building cars.
Hell probably be a sucken,
on Babcocks big cigar,
You know he had it comin',
He wasnt gonna be free,
But he signed a 1 year deal,
And that's what tortures me.

Well, if they Bring Me back to Pittsburgh,
If that chance is all mine,
Ill come back for little money,
And a Stanley Cup down the line,
Far from New York City and Russia,
Pittsburghs where I want to stay,
And I'd be happy to play with Sidney,
and blow some records away.

The higher the number the more likely he says it's going to happen, so an E5 is more likely than an E1 according to Ek.

But in reality an E5 usually means no way in hell while an E1 stands a chance.

I don't think he's the missing piece of the puzzle for the Pens, but I think he'd be a great addition. If nothing else, like someone mentioned above, he'd be a Scary Gary type guy and I think that's something this team is sorely missing. We need a guy who has the scars and the no fear attitude. I say if we can swing it for around a million a year, I'd love to see him in a Pens uni.
