Pens are upgrading defense when they were ranked in the top 10 in fewest goals allowed until the Detroit game. Flyers are talking to Shanahan when they are near the top in goals allowed. You tell me, which team gets it?

I'm sure he has some trade value, but compared to where it could be, it's got to be low right now, relatively speaking. Trading anyone, let alone a high-potential guy on a reasonable contract, when their value is low doesn't strike me as something Shero would be considering.

All good points, but perhaps the player coming back is also a high-potential guy on a reasonable contract who is currently struggling or recovering from an injury. We crack about the Senators, but Alfreddson could come cheaper than expected.

Tampa Bay could start shedding players because of the twitchy ownership. They may not shed salary, but they move someone like St. Louis to fix other portions of their team. Defense and goalie would be a start.

Toronto has nothing. What about Jason Blake? St. Louis hasn't made any progress. Brad Boyes? Edmonton and Dustin Penner? Colorado and Milan Hejduk?

All raise eyebrows, but no one hear expected Hossa either.

tampa supposedly has GARY ROBERTS and radim vrbata on the block. vrbata is puke and hasn't scored all season if i recall correctly. what a goofball team. they bring in all these players and then get rid of all of them a minute later. and coaches. but who can blame them?

My money is on Roberts to be traded to Toronto. They have a team that's hustling for Ron Wilson and he'd be a good presence for them.

TB should hope Vrbata goes to the KHL.

Ummm...let's leave Radim Vrbata alone now, it's bad enough that he plays for a joke organization, but he's a talented player when given some time...

They gave him, what, $3 million per year and then proceeded to give him 4th line minutes...Recchi, Pettinger, they play more than him even strength...same with Malone, $4.5 million per year, third line minutes...he plays like 13/14 minutes a night...

That's pathetic...what an absolute joke of a franchise...

Just to clarify, that link is just TSN reporting on the RDS report. It's not TSN reporting the deal via their own sources.

If the trade is true, Boucher will add some needed physical presence.

I think this make Letang more accountable as well. Boucher has some decent offensive instincts and is a righty/ I don't think MT would ahve played Sydor, Eaton and Gill all at the same time but I think he could play Boucher, Eaton and Gill nad sit Letang if Letang has a few bad games.

If true, this explains why Sydor was not playing over Eaton last night.

While this trade makes some sense and neither guy dressed last night, the lack of any confirmation kind of leads me to believe it's bogus at this point. I also think Dallas could get more than Sydor easily, regardless of Boucher's injury woes and declining play. He's still a better dman than Sydor at this point.

I agree about Dallas getting more than Sydor. At this point they don't need a D, unless they're assuming Zubov is going to get hurt again. Also from Sydor's angle, not much playing time in Dallas either and he did waive a no trade clause. :?

Could Vrbata be a good winger for Sid? Guessing Tampa could let him go for a reasonable return.

Essentially nothing for nothing. Same bad players, same bad contract that ends on the same day. Both teams are trading one of their bad performers for another team's bad performers in the hope that they will catch lightning in the bottle.

Boucher hasn't been able to shoot the puck since he hurt his shoulder, and according to the Dallas boards he's timid physically and is a shadow of his former self. They've been wanting him gone for a while now, preferably for a draft choice. Sound familiar?

Whatever. Low risk, high reward, I guess.

This. Once Gonchar and Whitney return Boucher could easily be in the same spot as Sydor. If he proves us wrong, great.

I just read that you said the same thing lol This trade had to happen during/after the game.

Shero probably finalized it after Eaton mishandled the puck at the point tonight.

I can't believe this. Am i missing something or did Shero just steal a Star? Maybe its one of those stars that have been been burnt out for years, but the light is just touching us now. Hopefully this isnt the case with Boucher here in Pittsburgh.

Finally, revenge for the Zubov-Hatcher trade! :P

This trade is pending Sydor waiving his NTC....

which I can't believe he would want to sit in Pittsburgh anymore after asking to be traded.

To me it really seems as just a move by two classy organizations. Both were unhappy under their current status and both wanted traded. (from what i have read, but no links sorry) So instead of benching them or trading them away for a 6th pick or conditional etc. they just swapped them. This in the long run i think will help both teams. Sydor played alot in Dallas and reunites him with friends and teammates and probably will help Modano in the lockerroom, and we all know what Boucher does for us. But furthermore does this not show other players what kind of GM Shero is. You play well, your unhappy, RS will do what he can to get you moved to a better situation. Did it with recchi, Moore and now Sydor.
