Lol?

Dupuis is better than Pesonen in the roles he has been asked to fill, other than on the first line.

We hadn't had a ZP pointless speculation thread in a while. Nothing like making up for lost time.

To summarize...Pesonen should be promoted to the big club because:

-- He's playing well (read: adequately) as a first liner in the AHL.
-- Pascal Dupuis is a 3rd liner.
-- Ergo, Pesonen should take Dupuis' place as a third liner.
-- ????
-- Profit!

He's 3rd on WBS in scoring for the team behind Minard (-7) and Taffe (-2).

I really don't see all of the commotion about calling him up right now. Maybe if he had 15 goals or something right now and was really tearing up the league but he doesn't and he really doesn't make the Pens any better by calling him up now unless someone gets hurt.

I'm not talking about now. They guy has skill. Pens will lose him.

Wasn't your position to call him up now so that they don't lose him later? If you are not saying that he should be called up now, what's the point of the thread?

Look, the bottom line here is this, you want to make changes to a lineup that's won 6 straight? Against some quality teams like Detroit and Buffalo? Sorry, but until Pesonen makes a real push and/or someone in a top six role falters or gets hurt (not a guy like Dupuis playing on the 4th) there's no reason to pull him up.

If Pesonen's game is offense and he is only the #3 scorer on WBS... then he would not be my top choice as a call-up anyway.

Dupuis > Pesonen right now.

This isn't the Penguins of a few years ago, Pesonen is going to have to earn his spot with the big club. It sounds like he's willing to do that, and he has talent, so I wouldn't say he's "done" as a Penguin either....

So Pesonen isn't going to be the long lost winger for Sid? But I had him penciled on the first line after we signed him = O

There is none. This is what passes for criticism in the middle of November, while the Pens are the 4th seed in the East. Amazingly, during the last 6 games, I never gave one thought as to where Pesonen will play next season.

Man, years ago, I spent a year trying to convince the ESPN message board that Aubin was a horrible goalie. I guess I'll just you guys figure Dupuis out for yourselves.

Maybe he means "done" as in "the little thermometer on the side has popped up".

If they don't take Pesonen out of the "oven" now, he'll be "overdone", which will mean they have "burned" him.

Wooo metaphors!

All the "Dupuis <> Pesonen" comments are silly, as those are two completely different kinds of players. Pascal is good at what he does, and is already seasoned in NHL. As much as I like Pez, I still believe he needs at least couple of months to be ready, and even then, as he is top six winger, I have hard time seeing him crack the top, and even less, the second line.

Amen. The top 2 lines need goal scores and Pesonen is not netting the puck. Awesome that he has lots of assists and is solid +/- but start putting the puck in the net. That's why you're here.

It's my opinion that the only reason people are discussing Pesonen is because they like the sound of his name....

I was just thinking yesterday how funny it was that after several wins, Pesonen's name hasn't even been mentioned the last 2 weeks.

He won't be in the NHL this year unless a couple guys get hurt. He's third in scoring in WBS, behind Minard and Taffe. Not exactly the goal scoring machine many had expected.

I was not actually trying to be a d*** with that comment. When read the start of the thread I thought he wanted the guy up. Then later in the thread he said he shouldn't be up. I was just confused as to what he was trying to say.

Did someone say Dupuis was great, or are people just saying that he is better than a guy that has zero NHL games?

Pesonen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dup.

He sucks. 82 games. Less than 10 goals on Crosby's wing. I could pick someone off the street that could score more than that. "Oooooo Dup is so fast omg omg omg" Ya, to bad so inconsistent. TK would be a better winger then him. I have such a bad vibe for him that I don't even want to look him up on wikipedia to further and more intelligently evaluate his role and potential. I just want to hate him.

I'm fairly sure that if pesonen wanted to get immediate playing time in the NHL, he could sign with some craptacular team like the flyers that is desperate for anything resembling goal scoring NHL talent. He knew what he was getting into by signing with the pens.

People talk about Pesonen not being a goal scorer. . .
I'm not sure that's exactly what I'd expect from him.

Everyone sort of expects this soft dangling shooting small forward, and I don't really think that's what he brings to the table at all.

I've only seen him play once and have only read about what he's doing at WBS, but the impression I get is that he's a guy that will go to the high traffic areas, is willing to make physical contact, and is also pretty good with the puck. Seems like he could be an energy guy like Talbot or Kennedy with a bit more of a playmaking touch. Which could fit any of the top 3 lines next year, and I think there will be an opening on the top 9 on wing after Shero makes his signings for a WBS guy like Pesonen to either make it out of camp or steal a spot from a cheap signing.
