Funny, half the responses thinking this is in Minny's favor and half in Pens favor.

And for the record, this is complete crap :D

I think Whitney might be trade bait at the deadline. With the logjam at offensive d, and his relatively high value, if Gogo and Letang look like they can continue to produce, Whitney may be the odd man out.

Ummmm... can you say career suicide for RS?

No offense guys...but Minnesota scoffs at that offer big time...

A UFA, 4th line wing, Young defensenman with a lot of talent and a pick for an elite goal scorer...

KG's got it...that deal puts Minnesota on lollerskates...

I doubt we see any moves. There is nothing seriously lacking on this team right now, and with the "logjam" of defenders, we still find ourselves in a situation where we only have 1 extra at the moment. The postseason is notoriously hard on defenseman where injuries are concerned, so it would be dumb to dump anyone unless it represents some kind of significant upgrade (what do we need?). It's also impossible to say how long it will take Whitney and Gonchar to get back into top form and what their "top form" will be for the remainder of this season.

Unless we lose a forward for significant time, the only move I could see is 1 of the bottom defenseman for a draft pick. And maybe if Shero doesn't like what he sees out of Dupuis, you could possibly see him moved to free up the roster spot and salary going into the off season. I don't think Whitney goes anywhere.

Marone`, nobody is getting traded unless an extreme oppurtunity presents itself.

I think Whitney, Gill and Eaton are ones to watch being fondled with at the trade deadline.

A would really think a move has to be made when Whitney comes back. Either someone gets traded, or you send someone down. No matter what it's a tough decison.

Even if you wanted to imagine a trade like Staal, Goligoski, and a pick for Kovalchuk/Gaborik, it can't happen. In order to make a big move, they're going to have to trade some salary to balance it out. They only have less than a mil under the cap, so either it'll be more of a role filling type move, or they'll have to find a way to shed salary. Trading away picks and guys on rookie contracts can't make a big move possible.

Reality, the Pens return a better crop of injured players than those likely that will be rentals available down the stretch. Lets hope this keeps rolling.

There was just an article in one of the papers today where Shero talked about this. Doesn't sound like there will be any trades of defensive "depth" any time soon. As he notes, they're just a shot off Scuderi's foot from having no depth on D. They can worry about their depth "problem" if they have everyone healthy at once. Right now, they don't.

wow. I wouldn't trade Goligoski alone for Gaborik at this point. Gaborik doesn't fit past the end of this season and I honestly can't see sacrificing anything for another rental.

Its funny how we have a chance to lock up 2 young blueliners with huge upside and everyone is already thinking of ways to trade them.

Here is an idea. Eaton and a first to the Ducks for Bobby Ryan.

Our 'winger for Sid' problems are over starting next season.

People have been saying the same about Whitney for years now, and his ceiling is higher than either of theirs'.

I'm no Ray Shero, but if I was, I would plan on Whitney, Orpik, Letang and Goligoski being the core of my blueline for a long, long time.

Agreed NJ. You're right. Shero probably feels the same way. But that's no fun when we are talking about potential trade rumors... :)

Absolutely. The Pens should be willing to move guys like Grant and Sneep. The future top four on D should be off limits. That's going to be a heck of a D core when they're all developed together.

I don't mind it, it's just that I don't know how to maneuver with it. Like I wanted to quote NJ's post but I couldn't. I clicked quote and previewed, and the quote box was empty...

Agree and disagree. There needs to be a limit, however, 3 is too little. 5 would be a good number.
