I got them down towards the glass before when they sucked. I remember looking around the arena wondering if I would ever see it filled again.

I got A a few times back when I could student rush in the bad old days pre-lockout when Mario was "in the best shape of his life" and you could show up at the gate a day or two before the game for student rush. The best seat I had was 2 or 3 rows behind the glass, so they really did mean "the best available seat in the house".

Maybe now, but not when they were first worn. The team stunk then.

Besides, when the Pens wear black and real gold (not this tan/olive crap) they win CUPS.

Who in their right mind would pay real money to watch the Wild? I'd rather watch paint dry, its infinitely more exciting. And the beer is much cheaper.

I'm a full season ticket holder and put tonight's on TicketExchange a week ago and the lowest price it would accept, roughly equal to single game gate price. They hadn't sold by lunch time today, so we sold them at face value to someone from work.

I'm guessing many people know how Minnesota plays and don't want to see it. We usually dump NJ games as well, unless there's a promo we want or something.

I gave my tickets to some friends, as I knew this would be a snoozefest. Did they end up selling out??

It was a sellout, 16,900 and some change. Definitely not one of the most thrilling nights I've had in the Igloo.

Unless they announced the attendance during the first 5 minutes I missed of the 2nd period getting food, I didn't see the attendance.

Edit: NM I must have missed it then  I think I might have fallen asleep 8-)

Yep, as lebo said, 16,971 sold, but definitely not in attendence. There were many seats that were open all over the place, but mostly in Igloo, A, and B.

pens tickets aren't hard to get though. they have created this fictional world with this sellout streak to give them impression that the tickets are super hard to get. if you just want tickets and aren't picky where you sit they are rather easy to get even at season ticket holder face value. there have only been a few full standing room only sellouts, none on weekdays aside from the heavily promoted student rush game.

That is true. I've picked up some extra tickets for games, and even the Igloo seats can be gotten at or below face value easily. There are a lot of tickets floating around. On Craigslist, there are lots of tickets for below face value if you wait until the day before the game to look.

When the new arena opens, after the first year or so this business of "selling out" every game is going to end, unless they ramp up Student Rush again.

Anyone know why they stopped announcing how many sellouts in a row they've had? I've noticed the last few games that they announce the attendance and say that it's a sellout, but they no longer say, "Our XXth sellout in a row!"

That's because people don't realize there are tickets still available. With the waiting list, and this sell out streak, it has created a false impression that tickets are impossible to find, so people don't bother. The same thing happened for Pitt BB.

Last night's attendance was announced at but 31 above the 16940 floor. It tied for the lowest home attendance of the season, with the Edmonton game almost two weeks ago. In nine home dates, it was the third game below 17000 (other was a 16983 in the Oct 14th Flyers game). By comparison, four of nine have been complete SRO sellouts (17132) - the home opener, the 10-23 Carolina game, and the Buffalo and Flyers games last week. The average is 17057 - 13 lower than this time last season - though last year had only 3 complete SRO games to this point. (Though with only 9 games in the sample, last night's figure was enough to drag the average down from 17068 to 17057, though game 8 took it up from 17059 to 17068, and game 7 took it from 17046 to 17059)

So you're saying they are fudging the numbers and last night was not really a sellout??

Who knows. I wasn't there, and this is the first year since the lockout that we haven't contributed with a 20 game plan, so anything is possible. It does seem strange that the 16971 repeated itself twice. (In order, 17132, 16983, 17030, 17033, 17132, 16971, 17132, 17132, 16971) Though in the end, it is not the number of people there that matter as much as tickets sold. Sure, the more people there, the more concession revenue, but unless the Pens get a piece of that pie, it doesn't matter. One should figure in this day of a scannable ticket that an accurate count should be possible, as a way to verify the turnstile count with the number of scans.

I just keep track of too much data for little to no reason other than I have been doing it for ages.

There were a lot of empty seats, but there were definitely people in the SRO section. Even with the student rush program they'd sell actual seats before going to SRO, right? Based on that assumption, I'd say that it was accurately a sellout, just not a complete SRO sellout.

They mentioned at the last game that it was the 75th in a row, I think.

Yes, they definitely announced on Saturday that it was the seventy-whateverth sellout in a row.

I must have been trashed or ignoring John Barbaro (sp?) because I do not remember them announcing that...
