Only a fool would acquire Penner at his salary.

Yea, his salary is just too ridiculous. The Pens are up against the cap as it is, so why trade future assets to handcuff your spending?

Not to be a smart ass but do you have any idea how much Penner makes?

There is a big reason he has been called out in the press by his coach.

Worst idea I've ever heard....ever.

What would you possibly be willing to offer for an over-paid, lazy, underachiever? It is possible he could regain his touch if he weren't being counted on to be "the guy", but those were some very harsh words passed about him last week. He did put up some good numbers with Getzlaf though (who I consider to be the Crosby of the West), so maybe he would. Lupul did pretty good once he got away from Edmonton.

If you want to solve the issue on Sid's wing, you move Scuderi/Gill/Eaton along with a 1st round pick to the Ducks for Bobby Ryan.

The Ducks need a blueliner, we need a Bobby Ryan next year.

You never know. Ryan was rumored to be available last season and this summer. The Ducks didn't have cap room for him now and theres no guarantee they will next season. Scuderi and a 1st rounder isn't exactly dog meat to a team desperately needing to fill a hole in the blueline.

I'm not buying into Bobby Ryan. If he was so good, Anaheim would have made room in the cap to bring him up. You can't tell me they wouldn't move a scrub to bring the guy up if he were ready.

Beauchemin going down opened up the cap room for Ryan now. They have a ton of cap room for next season. They still have Pronger and Niedermayer plus some other useful defensemen... I don't think there's anyway they'd consider moving him for a UFA defenseman after the season and a draft pick.

The Pens missed the boat on Brad Boyes and more recently, Blake Wheeler.

Ducks and Jackets need help on the blueline for sure. They both would be good trade partners for us but we're not going to pull in the mother lode in trading either Gill, Scuds or Eaton. Most teams would only offer a draft pick for any of the three. It would be great to get a mid-range prospect for them. I'd be very happy to get a Maksim Mayorov, Tom Sestito, or Josh Brittain.

In the words of MT, Penner would be too "Soff" for the Pens. I don't mean pay wise, I mean 'soff' around the waistline.

Penner is a sloth. It would be a disaster to put him with Crosby.

And he plays like he's 5 foot 8.

Penner is garbage...a third line talent with a first line salary...not to mention how fat he is...

He was never (that) good, and anyone that thought that shouldn't have a job...(props to the guy that found him - Burke, as an undrafted free agent though)...

Maybe once everyone is healthy, but not right now. Goligoski is logging a lot of minutes. Plus, I'm not enthused over the prospects of Mark Eaton getting back in the lineup the way he's been playing lately.

If Ryan turns out to be good/great, then great. I just don't understand why if he's got game, they wouldn't bring him up. His stats in the AHL were good.

Why did the pens wait till Malkin was 20 to bring him up? Apparently it just wasn't time.

Because Burke screwed up by not allowing enough salary space for him.

If you look, Bobby Ryan is getting shuffled back between the ECHL and the NHL right now because of this whole mess. It's been widely regarded that he should have been up this entire time.

How about Whitney + 2nd for Corey Perry?

Perry can then be Sid's winger.
