Funny Comment From the "Other" Board

Postby DocEmrick on Fri Nov 21, 2008 1:39 pm

Lord Stanley wrote:Back to the Blue Jackets rumor for a moment.

As I've already mentioned, I don't see Staal+ as a fit for the Jackets, but would anyone be willing to move Malkin to get Nash?

Now, before I get flamed, let me lay it out there for a minute. I would see the deal as something along the lines of Malkin/pick for Nash/Nikita Filatov OR Jakub Voracek/pick. Trading Malkin would free up enough money to resign Nash to a long term deal. We would also have enough left over to sign Staal to an extension to be our #2 center. This would allow us to run lines that would look something like this...

Figured some of you might get a kick out of this. The kid has Staal centering the 2nd line.

Trade the best player in the league. It's a no-brainer.

Let's just be thankful that we have an intelligent GM who seems to know what he's doing. The move proposed here is definite CPness.

I think the general consensus is that Sid has a nagging injury that everybody refuses to divulge...

I just tried this trade on NHL 09. When I hit submit for the trade, I got a message that I was fired as GM and I was not permitted to play the game anymore

In Malkin's worst season ever, he scored 16 more points than Nash scored in his best season.

I agree Mongoose- Who would want the best player in the world anyway? I'd rather have Jiri Tlusty and Robbie Earl myself.

Every trade proposal I see on that forum is absolutely moronic. I don't even know why I read them.

There are some that actually achieve even value, but the purpose of which is just to "shake up" both teams or be a "blockbuster."

I don't know why some people are so eager to dilute the talent of the team. Yes, you can turn Malkin into a few lesser players. Quantity is going to be worse than quality. Look at the Rangers. They have a handful of guys that might score in the 60-70 point range. "Depth" is nice, but you're never going to match up against a team that has an actual difference maker. The Pens have maybe the greatest luxury in the league with both Crosby and Malkin, Staal too if you want to extend it further. It's far easier to add depth beyond those guys than it is to find those types of players. After all, the Pens have managed to bring in productive players like Sykora and Satan at low costs. I don't mean to make Nash out to be some scrub, but he's not even close to Malkin's level. The Pens signed Satan for $3.5 million to play with Crosby and if he stays healthy, he's probably going to put up 35-40 goals. The "winger for Crosby" obsession isn't that big of a deal and moving Malkin to find that guy isn't smart. Why not just make Malkin Crosby's winger if you want to both bring in a high quality wing to play with Crosby and open a center spot for Staal?

Wait, I thought Malkin had already been shipped to LA for Brown, Kopitar and Jack Johnson?

There are enough bad trade ideas on this board that going to other boards for bad ones is unnecessary.
