He should return on Dec 20th against Toronto at home.

Always a great day for a comeback, even if it is just a comeback from an injury.

There's the problem.

I know this is an unpopular sentiment, but I tend to assume that the people in charge of our beloved hockey team know what they're doing and have specific knowledge that I don't (until specifically proven otherwise), rather than the alternative. There's a reason they're in hockey management and I'm not.

True. This is good.

True, but that won't last. A month, month-and-a-half tops.

Sure, but what fun is that? :D
I prefer to think that Shero or any other GM can't hide behind the "inside knowledge" curtain.

Our powerplay is going to be awesome when he gets back.

Unit 1-

Malkin-Crosby-Satan
Whitney-Goligoski

Unit 2-

Mario returned on the 27th...

If there aren't anymore injuries I think they'll send Gogo to WilksBarre when Whitney returns. The pens staff has high hopes for Boucher I believe, and they won't sit Gill/Scuds imo.

Think about this...Whitney comes back to practice and the Pens lose 2 of 3...

Coincidence?!

I tried to post a comment, but they want me to sign up. That is well beyond the time I was willing to put into it.

If someone will loan Len Barrie enough money to be part owner of the Lightning, you're probably selling yourself short in comparison.

i wouldnt pencil whitney in on PP1 yet. he needs to earn his way back into that spot.

When Boucher, Gill and Scuds are all gone next year everyone hating on Eaton will love that he's actually signed.

I'd have this anyways:
Staal-Crosby-Sykora
Gonchar-Malkin

Tank-Talbot-Satan
Whitney-Letang

Whitney Letang woudl also be my #2 pairing behind Gonchar and Orpik and it would make sense for them to play the back end of a PP and just stay out on the ice.

whitney won't be an instant injection of offense. that's not really his role on the PP. he's always been an accessory. making safe plays while the other guys do the heavy lifting. goligoski, while not being very defensively apt, is much better with the puck in the o-zone than whit (as is letang). and it's not even close.

but there might be some merit in having the more reliable player in the lineup. and whitney is a much, much better neutral zone passer than the other 2. so who knows. i'm not really sure what outweighs what. and gogo might not even stay up once whitney's back.

the point is that whitney was never the glue to the power play. if gonchar, gogo and whit were all healthy, i'd go with gonchar and gogo without hesitation. but since we have an issue with turnovers at the blue line, putting the veteran in might be better. it's certainly not a cut and dry situation.

No it isn't, and Gonchar is clearly more valuable than Whitney. Hell, he's probably the most valuable point man in the entire league, or close to it. But the idea of making Whitney earn his PP time, when the guys out there now can barely hold the puck in at the line, give up shorthanded chances by the dozen, and can't/won't shoot unless they think about it for 45 seconds first, is lunacy.
