If Max is out for a period of time...........

Postby saints11 on Wed Nov 26, 2008 10:34 pm

What are the options? Do we bring up Pesonen or do we pursue Shanny? What are the other options? I think the question revolves around whether Syd and Malkin are going to play together again. If so then the option is neither of these two and we bring up a center. Personally, I didn't mind the Ziggy centering Dupuis and Satan. Would never touch the Staal line right now. So maybe a center is the answer.

I'd guess Taffe is brought up.

I'd call up Pesonen because I think they could use a top 6 winger and I like his skill level better than anyone else's down there.

I would guess however, that Minard would get the call and be plugged into the 4th line while Dupuis moved back up top with Crosby and Fedotenko got bumped up with Malkin.

PP1: Sykora - Crosby - Malkin/ Letang - Boucher
PP2: Satan - Staal - Cooke/ GoGo - Orpik

Sykora - Crosby - Cooke (Cookie could do wonders on this line.)
Satan - Malkin - Talbot/Pesonen/TK (It doesn't Matter they are all Similar. Talbot is more corners and in the front of the net Play. Peso can do that and score pretty goals)
Fed - Staal - Dupuis
Godard - Zigo - Pesonen/TK/Talbot

Letang - Orpik
GoGo - Boucher
Scuds - Gill

DO IT MT. BEST POSSIBLE LINES I CAN THINK OF

Why break up our best line right now, TK---STAAL---COOKE? Then I'd keep Satan with Syd and Sykora with Malkin, but switching those two might help both Satan and Sykora. Keep Fed with Geno and Dupuis with Syd, though options could change as to who is brought in. Slide Pesonen in with Syd to see, keep Syd & Geno together if we bring up Taffe. Minard coming in reinforces option Number 1. 4th line becomes.......Minard--Ziggy--Godard.

If they want to bring someone up to play in Talbot's place on Crosby's line, I'd like to see Pesonen get the call up. If they just want someone to play on the fourth line, they'll probably call Taffe or Minard up since they're more deserving of a call-up at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if they just go with seven D this weekend to get Eaton back in the lineup. He's barely played this month.

Its time to stir the pot..... Sykora needs to part from Malkin for a bit and Satan needs to part with sid for a bit.

I hate the idea of 7 defensemen though. IMO, it kills the continuity of your defense and makes it a little more difficult for everyone to get a rhythm going. I forget where I heard it, but someone once said something like "If you're dressing 7 defensemen, what it really means is you don't have 6 quality guys." I tend to think that's true. The only benefit to it is you're covered if you lose a defenseman due to injury or penalty, but that's not enough to offset the negatives.

Not to squash the Pesonen love-fest, but WBS' best forward on Sunday in Cleveland was Jeff Taffe. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back.

Taffe's probably next in line for a call-up. He deserves it. I'd like to see Pesonen eventually get a chance, though. We know Taffe's pretty much just a fringe fourth line guy. Pesonen has some possible upside.

If they just want someone to fill in and not cause any problems, they'll bring up Taffe or Minard, there's barely a difference in their NHL performance. They aren't anything special, but do an alright job on the bottom lines. Peso has upside, but still a wildcard as to his NHL potential and liability. I think they'll keep giving Minard chances first, though. I think he plays the closest to talbot, so I bet he gets first shot.

On other thoughts. Keep the Sesame Street together, Sykora had a good game tonight so leave him with Malkin. Satan played well, just couldnt burry it, so leave him with Sid. I like the consistency we've seen from Therrien lately (i'm as shocked as you are). Only real shake-up I'd like is if we try Malkin Syorka and Sid for a couple games. Other than that, Talbot is an easy fix.

There is no way you take Malkin off the point on the powerplay. I've been saying this for awhile now, he adds a whole new element and dimension to the offense when he is on the PP. He does so many things so well that gets the whole PP going.

Minard has worked his butt off for WBS and is deserving of the call up.

I missed the game because of work. What happened to Talbot and were there any other injuries?

the guy getting the most points in the AHL is not necessarily the best guy for the call-up.

That's bad logic, but I get what you're saying. Combination of points and hard work. I have no idea who that'd be, so I'm not going to say anything.
