It was a Sabu appreciation thread. Then it became a thread for people being idiots and not knowing about hockey if they think Sabu doesn't have the pedigree to be a starting NHL goalie.

When you have goalies like Lundqvist, Fleury, Luongo, Nabokov, etc that are long term guys who handle a large portion of the work, you can't keep backups around very long. They know they won't have a shot. You have to count on guys who just need a team to prove themselves or younger guys starting their career. There are so many teams with goal tending issues. I'm sure Sabu can land a gig where he is at least competing in camp for #1. That won't be here.

I don't think Fleury should play as many games as the others you mentioned. He's a smaller, more athletic styled goalie who is more likely to wear down. That's not a knock against him, really, but I think Fleury's career would be best served with about 50-55 starts a year. Enough games left to keep a backup happy, maybe, though they'd still have to resign to being a long term backup.

Semin's PPG is better, so of course he's better than Sid.

QFT -- nobody gives him 'credit' because he doesn't deserve anything but being really huge and working in front of that really good Boston defense...

Which could be an argument against Sabu -- that is if you're convinced that the Pens have a good defense...

Is Tim Thomas really *that* fat? I mean, 5'11" 200 lbs?

Well you're a chunk too. just joking.

Maybe its his awkward looking cage and he has to weigh more then 200.

He just plays the position in panic mode always....Scrambling around laying his lard on the ice to suffocate the ice into meltation so the puck cannot cross the goal line.

i've tried to join the "tim thomas sucks and is the luckiest goalie in the nhl club". i've seen too many of his games to know otherwise though. he is a very talented goalie. he just plays a style that is much much different than fleury or sabourin. it's a different game when you are a goalie under 6' tall. he's probably not even 5' 11".
