Is Gill the new Scud-elichar?

Gill is a very good penalty killer. He should play even strength with a more mobile player then Scuderi...

Yea but unfortunately that means Eaton will sit or Gogo will get sent down. I don't think MT will sit Gill anytime soon.

but Gill will have a better d-partner to bail him out for his lack of speed.

Gill's never been a stud. He has a good reach, but he needs a better defenseman who can move the puck to play with such as Letang, Whitney, Gonchar, GoGo. When he is with Scuds, both obviously aren't going to do well. Even though MT loves Gill, RS loves Eaton. Eaton is much better than Gill IMO.

Most likely reason for Gill's demise is that he has to play too much with Whitney and Gonchar down. Hopefully once they return and his minutes decrease (and he is spotted differently), he returns to last year's form.

Orpik - Scudari
Gill - Letang
Eaton - Gogo

Do it, MT.

This is pretty much how I feel. Gill is just playing too much. I thought he had his best game of the season against the Red Wings - after Scuderi went out, Gill played less & was with more mobile guys.

He needs to play third pairing even strength minutes and most definitely needs to be with a more mobile guy. Hopefully when Whitney comes back, Therrien will adjust the pairings accordingly. But right now, he's just out there way too much.

(edited to add. That was kind of a redundant post. Hm. Oh well.)

It's not fair to lump Scuderi with Gill. Scuderi is the man and everyone should know it! He makes safe play after safe play.

I like Scuderi, I just don't like the Scudill combo.

Pairing Gill and Scuderi doesn't work that well IMO (at least at even strength), because they have the same weaknesses; neither skates or passes all that well. Pair each one with someone that does do those things well, and Gill and Scuderi will both be better for it.

And I hate you all for making me post something that's even close to defending Hal Gill. :P
Did you have to etch-a-sketch that for most? Agree, 100%, someone has to move the puck with fleet feet on any pairing. Hall Gill is a space taker and "take space away in front" guy. Character guy, good at what he does, but not a peak Pronger etc. People that expect more will always be disappointed.

Gill was surprisingly good in the playoffs last year. Most would agree.

He's not been as good this year, most would agree. He was going through a really tough stretch with Toronto prior to coming to the Pens.

As someone previously wisely said. "Gill is getting too many minutes". He is also more suited to the playoff style than he is the reg season, meaning you can get away with a little more in the playoffs then reg season.

Gill getting injured could be a good thing, he'll be rested for the playoffs where hopefully he'll return to last year's form.

Didn't get a chance to. Don't let pfim play with your toys, especially an etch-a-sketch.

Now that Gill is injured, there is one less thing to complain about

So Pens fans have that going for them, which is nice
