BU vs BC on ESPNU- Sneep and Strait

Postby Noise on Sat Dec 06, 2008 9:45 pm

I was watching a bit of the 2nd period awhile ago. Will probably go back up to watch the 3rd.

Watching hockey just to watch two second pairing defensemen is frustrating

This being the second time I've watched the Eagles play, I really wish the Pens had Petrecki in their system. Best d-man on the ice for either team IMO.

Petrecki is a stud. The most physical d-man to come out of that draft.

Well I didn't watch the game but here's what I noticed:

Sneep is on the 2nd PP, behind a 1st PP that is comprised of 4 forwards plus a forward who has switched to D (Whitney)- he made some decent passes from the right point, but seemed reluctant to shoot

Strait was gritty, getting into a fight.

Both of them are playing behind a more talented pool of guys- Shattenkirk on BU and Petrecki on BC, as well as a few others. Maybe if they choose to forgo their senior years more ice time in the AHL would help both of them.

A lot of people compare Strait to Scuderi, but he seems more feisty. If we can eventually have a more physical version of Scuderi on the bottom pairing in Strait, that would be nice. Although I'm sure he'll have competition from Bortuzzo and Muzzin.

In an unrelated note, how ugly are BUs jerseys? No thanks...

Actually, Strait is on the top defensive pairing at BU. If he's behind anyone on the BU blueline, it's his pairing partner, Matt Gilroy. Not that Shattenkirk isn't talented, but Strait has been far more reliable, especially this year.

didn't realize that
it seemed to me like Shattenkirk was getting a lot more ice time

Shattenkirk is usually on the PP and PK more than Strait, and there were a LOT of penalties last night, that's probably why. But Strait is usually out more.
