Prospect Report - Moon Suspended - Not Happy

Postby Jesse on Sun Dec 07, 2008 12:05 am

I've been telling you all about Nathan Moon and the trouble that his team has been having.

Their GM, Larry Mavety, was the coach to start the year. There was no cohesion to the team, no game plan - it was a total circus on the ice. Two weeks ago, Mavety stepped down (his team having a mere 5 wins) and hired former NHL star Doug Gilmour.

Fans thought things would turn around, they were wrong.

In the midst of a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of the Belleville Bulls, the pot boiled over for Nathan Moon.

Moon scored a beautiful shorthanded goal early on. Came in alone, deked the goaltender glove side and buried it top shelf.

Later in the game, he got into it with some Belleville players in a scrum. As he was escorted away, he two handed one of the Belleville players' sticks. On his way to the penalty box, he took his stick and baseball swung the door of the penalty box. That earned him a game misconduct and a two game suspension. After his tantrum, the fans gave him a standing ovation. They're sick of watching this crap.

This kid is sick and tired of playing in Kingston. Hands down. It's so hard to get a good read on him. The situation there is so horrible that he's essentially becoming a streaky player. However, when he turns it on, he's a great prospect.

Ducks prospect Josh Brittain was just traded away from Kingston. Aside from Moon, he was their best player. Moon is unhappy, and we Penguins fans can only hope he gets moved as well.

Doesn't Kingston have that defensive prospect? Taylor Doherty who is like 6'8 Chara size? How has been doing on that team? Why is Kingston so bad?

Kingston's best defensive prospect is Erik Gudbranson.

He's an absolute tank, and he'll probably be a top ten pick in 2010.

Doherty is projected to be in the first round as well. If they have a few good defenseman, why is the team so horrid?

Nizzy,

The team is poorly run. The coaching staff, both prior and current, have no system. It's a free for all. They want the team to play wide open, do-whatever-you-want hockey, but they don't have the talent for it.

The offensive stars are jaded because of the management. Moon and Matt Kang are two guys that could care less at this point. Ethan Werek, who will go first round this year, doesn't have any help.

Doherty and Gudbranson aren't as good as a lot of people think they are. In addition to that, they have no idea what to expect on a nightly basis. They're constantly being switched and the lack of any true system is killing the team.

The team has three good defensive talents, Doherty, Gudbranson, and Jaroslav Kruzik. They have a rookie goaltender in Mavric Parks. But all the talent in the world won't work if there's no system and no discipline.

The root of all these problems is the GM, Larry Mavety.

Last year, Nathan Moon was on a tear under former coach Bruce Cassidy. Cassidy had the team playing stringent hockey. They might not have won a ton of games, but the team was disciplined and tough. When Mavety fired Cassidy and took over, everything went to hell.

They hired Doug Gilmour, but Mavety still pulls the strings.

With Brittain gone, Moon is on his last legs mentally. The best thing the Penguins can do is try to get involved and get the kid the hell out of that place.

Seems like a pretty awful situation. Here's to him getting out of there.

What else is there to say. I hope this doesn't stunt his development too much, if at all. Like others said, hopefully management is able to do something about it.

I think he needs to complete this season before he is AHL eligible.
