Crosby, Malkin, Staal line?

Postby wondermoose on Sun Dec 07, 2008 11:47 pm

Several factors from the Ottawa game has made me think of what a line with our three could be like. First, that Heatley, Alfredsson, and Spezza line dominated again. Then Staal's little deflection goal got me thinking about what a line of Crosby, Malkin, and Staal would do. I'm not suggesting this is a good idea, I'm a big proponent of keeping all three separate, but if scoring got really dire it would be a fun spark to let those three loose.

Does anyone remember them being put together in any capacity, aside from the power play?

Haha.

That would make Maxime Talbot the second line center. We'd go from best center depth in the NHL to worst center depth in the NHL.

EPIC fail if that ever happened.

the pizza line is a good line because each player is playing their natural position or at least one they have been playing for a great deal of time

staal malkin and crosby are all centers.

Well, that's not really my point. More or less just speculating on the amount of winsauce the three could produce together.

the reason the alfredson heatley spezza line works and is together is because there are 2 wingers and 1 center... crosby malkin staal is 3 centers, 0 wingers. somehow i dont think the math adds up

No thanks. We would have the same problem as Ottawa if we did this. When that line doesn't score, they lose. Even when they do score, they have to outscore the other team. They have no secondary scoring after that line.

We would have the same issues if that happened. I wouldn't want to rely on a second line of Fedotenko - Talbot - Satan for 20 minutes or so of ice time.

I think we did answer the "inference." It wouldn't be a good idea.

The only time I recall them being on the ice together is at the end of the game when we're trailing and trying to score it up sometimes.

It is an interesting idea.

And there may be a time to do it in a game, but I don't think they should look at it right now.

Talbot would be the other Center, and he's not been anywhere near his best of late.

With Ziggy and Kennedy injured, you don't really have anyone else to play center or take draws on other lines than Max.

well...with kennedy out, when MT puts sid and geno together, we effectively lose all of our secondary scoring potential. we really have nothing threatening. so for those odd 3rd period shifts, i don't think it's a bad idea trying all 3 together. but for a full game? that depth chart would be way too depressing.
