I have this surprising hatred...

Postby Jesse on Tue Dec 23, 2008 1:25 pm

for all things Tampa Bay. For some reason I had this game circled on my office wall schedule. I want to Pens to absolutely destroy this team tonight. It'd be a great way to get back on track. But also...

I don't like the way the team was created. Barrie and Lawton tried to buy their way to instant success and they're refusing to accept credit for the trainwreck that everyone saw coming.

They consistently traded good defensemen away for garbage returns. They traded 2 defensemen for Andrej Mezaros, a dumb idea to begin with. They ran Dan Boyle out of town, etc.

Now, the team is in shambles, and everyone saw it coming but Barrie and Lawton. I hope the Pens shove 8 goals down their cocky throats tonight. I love guys like Ray Shero that have the old-school attitude. They come from a time of respect and professionalism that Barrie and Lawton will never know. The way they handled the Boyle situation, the way they threw Melrose under the bus, the comments they made at last year's draft that seemed cocky, the threat to sue Melrose over his Stamkos comments, etc.

I'm also slightly jaded that so many of our guys ended up there. And the fact that Malone needed that extra few Million to 'feed his family' just fuels the fire I have. Anyone else in the same boat?

GO PENS!

I despise them too, mostly because until last season, they always beat the Pens. They were less talented but their big three always dominated. But I agree about everything you said. Their cocky ownership is enough to dislike them.

I have never really liked Tampa. I've always had a thing against Vinny L. And this team is getting exactly what they deserve. They put together a team sort of like we did after the lockout.

Tampa is a joke. They have runned a once solid franchise into the ground...

I wouldn't say it's trouble, but it would be really disappointing after the win last night. I said last night that beating Buffalo like they did will be the kick in the behind this team needed, and I still have that feeling.

Don't forget about Koci's cheap shot that injured Gonchar during the pre-season game of all things.

i wouldnt say i hate the team at all. I hated the moves they made this off season and who they let go and brought it but I have no hate for the team. I actually wish they did better than they have done so far. HAte to see all of our old players in the bottom of the league.

I have always liked Vinny L.
TB wins too easily when the pens visit FLA, but other than that, no hate in this game.

I never knew about Vinny much about Vinny until a few years ago. Didnt follow other teams as much as I do the Pens. I watched him play and he just seems to float and wait for someone to pass him the puck. Obviosly not 100% of the time but he just seemed like Mario did at the very end of his career a few years ago and slowly skate and pick a good spot and set up for a 1 time shot or whatever more so on a powerplay and thats how he got lots of ponts (Vinny). Ive only watched him when he played the pens so i havnt seen him that much. But i will see tonight.

Absolutely hate them. I agree with every single thing the original poster said about TB. I used to pull for them, when they were the league's doormat in the 90's and was happy for them when they brought home the cup. The new management has really changed their image quickly to one I loathe.

How in the world did Len "Jimmy Cadillac" Barrie ever get the cash to buy, or even partially buy, an NHL franchise??? I'm sure he wasn't making all that much coin when I used to watch him in the IHL. The wife isn't a huge hockey fan, but even she hates this team, especially Marty St. Louis.

I remember Len Barrie in his pens uni. I was number 9 at the time and he was number 9 on the Pens. I remember liking him for that reason. Looking back, the Pens don't exactly have a proud history of players wearing the #9. Shame too, probably one of the best numbers in hockey historically.

I've always liked Vinny as a player, but it seems like him and ol' Sanlooie had something to do with running Torts and Melrose out of town. I hate the ownership down there, however. They look like washed up members of a butt-rock band, and the way they basically forced out Jay Feaster was pretty rotten

Thank you for saying that since I felt that I couldn't since i'm the resident Tampa fan and would have been accused of bias.

Len Barrie made his money by owning a bunch of land in BC that he sold to a developer that put a golf course and resort on it.

I hope Malone's family is being well fed in Tampa Bay. Wouldn't want them to starve or go hungry for any reason whatsoever. Pizza for everybody while the food lasts
