Were you sitting in my section last night?

I honestly have troubling going to games anymore because I can't stand the things that come out of "fans" mouths at games.

You don't happen to sit around the C-10/D-10 area do you?

There's a guy there I'm surprised hasn't been thrown out yet by the ushers. He's in the first row of D.

You would swear he was trying to coach the team from the stands (mixed with an assortment of swearing).

It's kind of comical, yet annoying, but not really something he should be doing with kids in the area.

Shooting the puck isn't really the issue. It's hitting the net. Besides, I'd rather have more quality scoring chances than shots on goal.

Regardless, the Penguins fired the puck wide at least 15 times last night.

Shot totals are like +/-, they arent exactly indicitive of what's really going on. I suggest someone make a note of each shot that goes wide next game and add it to the Penguins total.

Do they have a tendency to overpass? Sure. But I don't think it's some kind of glaring issue.

Unless it's Crosby. It's becoming evident/predictable of his constant pass-first play style.

According to NHL.com stats, Crosby is 25th in the league in shots, so it's not like he isn't shooting the puck, but there are times when he has opportunities to shoot, he tends to pass the puck first. I could have counted 5 times he did that in the Toronto game where he had a scoring chance and instead passed the puck (to the right side where no one was at or drop passes that became turnovers).

The tendency to overpass (from what I've seen) is usually on the power play. Or, it involves them passing till they set up Malkin shooting from the point.

Team like Pens should shoot at least 25 times per game with players like that against any team.. We just need to relax, play simple game of pass and shoot,no overpassing,no forced shoots that lead to breakaways.. We have soo much talent on the team that we should use that as much as we can

While shooting the puck more doesn't always mean you score more due to quantity not equaling quality... getting the puck at the net can create rebounds, deflections, and general PRESSURE on the defense and goaltender to be on top of their game. As soccer commentators like to say, you have to "ask questions of the defense" by pressuring with shots and penetration into dangerous parts of the field.

And when the deflections, loose pucks, rebounds start to happen in the slot... all of a sudden you get additional HIGH QUALITY shots. All brought about circuitously by shooting "weak" shots.

I always liked Kevin Constantine's shot "grading" system, because it gives a nice idea about the quality of your shots. But not every single grade-A shot generates from ping-pong picture perfect passing.

I HATE watching a guy come down the wing... near the boards... and with a teammate rushing the slot...... and the guy tries to pick the near side top corner of the net. It's a near impossible score, and it guarantees there will be no rebound into the slot. A solid wrist shot low and to the far side would be a better shot. Still zero chance of scoring... but if the goaltender isn't perfect he'll lose a fat rebound into the slot and BANG your teammate jumps on the puck to get a grade-A shot.

Anyways, go back to basics when you are stinking the place out.

If Sid recognizes this is a weakness (or the staff for that matter), shouldn't he be working to perfect that shot?

Anyone remember when Jagr first got to Pittsburgh, he worked tirelessly before practice and after practice to develop his shot?

If this is the case, shouldn't Sid be doing the same thing?

I'm sure he realizes it. He's a very smart kid. But this will not improve overnight. Give him a year or two or something. I actually think his biggest problem right now is decision making. He's playing like a retarded person out there. No offense to retarded people - God bless you all. But he either shoots right at the goalie, passes to the other team, or does the stupid spinorama and misses the net. He relies on one thing only - speed. Fast, fast, fast. So fast, people can't keep up or he looses the puck. Malkin plays such an intelligent game. Like Mario. You can tell he thinks out there, slows the game down. Sidney... I don't know if he's completely frustrated with his teammates, or if he's hit a wall or something, but I think he's playing like an energetic third line player right now. I know it's temporary, but I honestly get angry when I watch him. And I very rarely get angry. I think Mario needs to sit him down about talk to him about changing his approach on the ice... adjust his game somewhat.

The Pens would have had OT last night if 17 hit the net with this two shots. And maybe we would be talking about two straight wins instead of canning the guy who took us to the Finals last season.
