Ruutu vs. Cooke

Postby czwalga on Mon Dec 29, 2008 10:17 am

I've always been an anti-rutuu person. I always said he's worthless takes way more stupid penaltys than he draws etc. A lot of people were upset we let him go... but,

I was just looking at some stats, last year rutuu had 16 points each of the last two years with the pens... cooke already has 14 and we're not halfway through the season. Not to mention cooke rarely takes stupid penaltys atleast like ruutu and he's an overall better player. Also signed for less! Nice work shero! I'm just happy I dont have to look at that stupid ass smirk everygame anymore. :D

I agree. I never liked Ruutu, I always found him to be a glorified pest who takes bad penalties at bad times...Cooke has legit offensive talent...Great signing indeed...

I did like Ruutu, but always said I would have hated him if he was on any other team besides the Pens. I agree that Cooke has been able to produce more offensively. I do still have to give Ruutu the edge on being able to simply run his mouth and draw a penalty.

At the end of the day you are right great move by Shero.

I really liked ruutu, but I like Cooke even more. I was surprised he was such a heavy hitter.

I liked Jarkko Ruutu. He was a PIA for the other teams forwards.
Matt Cooke is fine, but I'd rather have Ruutu. I think Cooke see himself as more of a scorer than a player who needs to help shutdown the opponents' goal scorers.

I really never got the obsession with ruutu. He's garbage in my opinion, atleast when he played for the pens.

I liked Ruutu but he wasn't anything special, just nice to have on your team if the price is right which it wasn't going to be. Cooke is a much much better signing and I already like him more than I did Ruutu.

I wish Cooke would back up his "pestiness" once in a while....Ruutu did that quite successfully.....

I don't like his reputation for being a heavy hitter that runs away from the odd fight.....If Kennedy and Fedotenko can fight, why can't he?

A lot of people underestimate Ruutu's abilities. I've said all year I wish we had Cooke and Ruutu!

No, he was garbage everywhere else too. Matt Cooke is cheaper, younger and a more skilled hockey player. This was a great move.

Cooke isn't quite the agitator that Ruutu is, but he is a hockey player, and Ruutu's not.

Cooke's talent >>>>>>> Jarkko's talent.

I liked Rutuu - hard to dislike him, he's so funny - but Cooke is tons better as a hockey player. Definitely a good move by Shero here.

I loved Ruutu from a personal standpoint. He was always a fun player to watch and was a good agitator. But this is hockey, and Cooke is clearly the better player. He's also a great leader in the locker room. Ruutu though great at the backhand shootout goal, took too many dumb penalties. I'm not sure MT was a big fan of him though. He always got limited icetime.
