Very Upset With PIT Fans on Saturday

Postby doublewinder on Tue Dec 30, 2008 2:51 am

As I was watching the game on TV...I could not believe it.
I was very surprised. It looked and sounded like there was a good amount of MON fans there. It was not overwhelming…but I saw a few sections and heard it clearly on TV.

I thought road fans were pretty much obsolete at PIT with constant sellouts…is this the case…and if not…how did so many MON fans get seats?

Is that what's like when Philly is visiting?

I wonder what the percentage of the arena had Montreal fans.

They were a vocal minority IMO. Maybe 10% of the crowd, I'm not sure.

There was pretty much a whole section of them in B. They were the ones making all the noise.

a good percentage of the crowd were habs fans.
the same amount as normal.
about as much as pens fans in other cities.
maybe 9.4% were habs fans.

i think that covers it...

there were way less Habs fans than previous years. i don't think there were 1,700 (10%) Habs fans though. maybe 5%.

Not sure how many games you've seen at the arena, but Habs and Leafs fans always travel well and it's not just here. The Leafs usually seem to get about 2000 or so fans into the arena every time they play here, and the few times I've seen the Habs play, they bring about the same. Most of them all come as part of these travelling fan clubs or caravans. Leafs fans I've talked to say that they buy many of their tickets for these games as soon as tickets go on sale and they get them in groups. I'm assuming Habs fans do the same.

Buffalo fans travel well to Pittsburgh, as do Red Wings fans (and the ones I've encountered have been among the most knowledgable and gracious visiting fans). I don't see as many Rangers and Flyers fans now as I have in past years.

We always brag on ourselves when we make a big showing of fans in Washington or Jersey or Carolina, but we can't give props to those fans who make the 9 hour trek from Mtl and pay good money for tickets?

There was a smattering of Hab fans all over the arena but mostly in 2 and 4 seat groups. The section that was filled with Red, White and Blue was the section that is normally reserved for the Student Rush, my thought is that somehow, someone in the Mtl organization or a tour group got hold of those tickets and got it to them, possibly as part of the 100th anniversary, those fans weren't a 1/4 of the obnoxiousness of Toronto or Buffalo fans, so I say welcome to Pittsburgh, and thanks for boosting the local economy.

I noticed a decent section in B behind the net the Pens defend twice, but being at the game, every time the Habs fans tried to start something, the Pens fans immediately came back and overshadowed them.

The only time I noticed them was when Montreal scored and after the game when Pens fans were leaving, but one group stayed behind to sing that damn Ole song.

The arena was as loud as I've heard it at a game I've been to... it was a great atmosphere. If it came off to you as the Montreal fans being dominant, all I can say is that the broadcast had mics in those sections only.

Did you watch the game on CBC? If so, that's why it seemed bad - they typically show opposing team's fans in the stands, when their team scores a goal. There looked to be a section of mostly Habs fans. (and there was one older gentleman in the middle of it all, wearing a blue Pens jersey LOL).

Yeah, I'm going to agree with most of this thread. There really weren't that many Habs fans and they really weren't very loud - and when they did start to make any noise, they were overwhelmed by Lets Go Pens chants. So I really don't know what you're talking about.

Habs fans travel everywhere well, and this wasn't nearly as bad as some other games.

i'd say about 1500 Habs fans in the building. Get over it.

Just wondering, why is the is this subject so important to you?

There were a section of Habs fans from the front of B all the way to the back of C in the 28 regions I believe...

Not really sure I heard it right, but it sounded like at the end of the Toronto game I heard the "crosby sucks" chant at the igloo. I know Toronto always has alot of fans at games here. Like I said not sure that's what I heard but it sounded like it.

I was at the Leafs game and I also heard the "crosby s*cks" chant. Very annoying. But I have to say, some Leafs fans sat directly behind me and it took me half the game to figure out who they were rooting for b/c they were almost as happy when the Pens did something good and cheered when we scored also. Later I heard them say they were "leafies". LOL

Wait. Why are you upset with Pittsburgh fans? There wasn't anything we could do about it. :?:

CBC mic'd up the Habs section to make it sound like they were more numerous.

B30 was like all Habs fans, but other than that, there were only a few mixed in, in other sections.

Yes, I did.

Really...so it was just an illusion by CBC?

How did this showing compare to a normal Philly game now and pre-lockout?
