Pens record this year vs. last year...almost identical

Postby kovyman1127 on Wed Dec 31, 2008 1:21 am

Check this out...this was posted Monday.: Granted, we caught fire at the end of last year...

But you should know that the '07-'08 stats are what the Pens had accumulated through 38 games last season. They've only played 36 games so far this season.

As far as the power play goes, 2 more goals on the PP so far this season would have them sitting at a 19.6% right now. Yeah, better than last season.

The sky is falling! we're all gonna die!

But really, the only difference is last year at this time, the Pens were catching fire, and this year, they're declining.

Still time to turn it around!

night.

I'm enjoying some extra leg room on the bandwagon now that people have jumped off in despair. But the turning point for this team is now. Time for the team to decide how it's gonna be.

Last year the Pens looked A LOT better on the ice despite the standings being similar.
This is the problem.
I think fans like YOU and the team all think "well because we got hot in the 2nd half last year...and the NHL likes us so much...we'll be fine."

I gotta say...wrong.
Time to start working...start back checking Crosby instead of diving.

This is one of the most pathetic teams I have seen because unlike pre lockout...they have talent.
They lost COMPLIMENTARY pieces...this is just poor effort by the core...and it starts with the captain who is the 2nd best player on the team.
Adam Oates jr with better looks and diving skills.
Show up Sid.

Yea the numbers are close, but last year the Pens started out horrible and were hot as hell at this point. This year the Pens are going in the opposite direction. The numbers are just close in passing as they continue to free fall!

Actually the main difference is that the roles of Sid and Geno are reversed, Geno was still in his "shell" at this point and Crosby was clearly the better player. This year it is Malkin as the better player by a long shot. Also both Sid and Geno were stacked on the same line a lot and we won a couple in a row against a bunch of creampuff teams. At least this year we have a better division record.

This is no time to panic yet, but there are some core problems on this team that weren't on last years squad.

I'm pretty sure that doublewinder is a fan of another team that's just trying to stir stuff up. Adam Oates Jr. with better better diving skills? No Pens fan would ever say that.

lol I would say that about the Adam Oates part, Sid is starting to remind me of him. He is still the only player I have ever seen pass up shooting into a wide open net with the goalie completely out of position to Brett Hull. Oates put up a ton of points in this league though, so whats wrong with that?

The Pens will be fine. They are going through a bad patch right now but once they get a break or 2 their confidence will grow and the plays will start clicking. They aren't getting timely production from their PP and PK right now. The Bs 2 PP goals in the 2nd were crushing. Then the Pens gave up the Bs 3rd goal soon after the Pens tied things up. The SHG decided the game. Reversing one of those events could have changed the outcome. The Bs are on a roll now, but the Cup is not won in December. The Eastern Conference sucks so the Pens are pretty much assured of a playoff spot and Shero will add the necessary pieces at the deadline. The Pens have several key players that are capable of playing better and inevitably will find their form as the season progresses.
