could jagr really be had for league min?

Postby icecats30 on Fri Jan 23, 2009 8:11 pm

after hearing jagr say he wants to help mario by coming back for the league minimum, anyone think that he could actually be a pen next season for league min? suppose that staal or whitney for horton trade happens, would these lines look 10x better than this years?

horton - sid - jagr
dupuis - malkin - sykora
cooke - talbot - kennedy

gonchar - orpik
letang - whitney
gogo - scuds

fleury
curry

you loose staal, but basically get 2 top 6 wingers for under 5 mil... imo i really hope this happens

I don't actually think Jagr would take the league min. He'll get at least 5 a season where ever he goes. As much as I'd like to see him back in the Black and Gold, I just don't see it ever happening.

WRONG. The Rangers would not give him 2 years x 5 million.

True, but I think that had more to do with the fact they did not want him back more than they did not think he was worth 5/yr. You honestly believe no team in the NHL would pay at least 5mill/yr for Jagr?

Jagr will be back in a Pens uniform next year, mark my words. It's called a pro forma contract, and it's the only way Jagr will ever be a Penguin again.

Its not going to happen because even at his age jagr is still a solid player, worth anywhere between 60-80 points so the league minimum won't happen (i also feel the NHLPA won't want him to take the minimum) I could see maybe a deal in the 1.5 to 2 mil range.

I'd take Jags for 1.5 - 2 over Satan for 3.5 ANYDAY.

Who says Jagr would want to play for any other teams? He has stated he would only want to play for New York or Pittsburgh.

He won't be had for the league minimum if the NHLPA has anything to say about it, but Mario would probably still be able to get him pretty cheap.

I am sure the PA would be irked if he took the league minimum.

Jagr would love to piss them off, Part of the reason why I love Jagr.

I think he will come back, but where needs to be seen, but overall his stats tell me this:

NHL TOTALS Games 1,273 goals 646 Assists 953 and most important figure - points 1,599 :P

Assuming Jags means what he says, he could. He would be what? 38 when his current contract is up in the KHL. I was against paying Jagr $5M as a UFA this past offseason, but for $500k, he's in. If the opportunity actually came up in the future, it'd be interesting to see if that statement stands when he doesn't have an $8M contract with his name on it.

Jagr wrote:“I was thinking about it and if Mario would call me and say, ‘I’d like you to play for our team,’ I would think about it a lot,” Jagr said “I would play for the minimum salary. I would play for $350,000 just for him because I owe him my hockey life. I want to pay him back because he has made me what I am"

As far as I'm concerned, once he's let out of his KHL contract, if Jagr wants the Pens and the Pens want Jagr, they'll find a way to make it happen.

If he decides to come back, maybe (even tho he's not saying it to the papers) other teams are an option. I don't know, maybe the Pens are the only team he wants to play for, but I've just never heard of a player of Jagr's level getting paid the league min no matter how much he says he wants to play for the team. Don't get me wrong, Jagr playing for the Pens again would be awesome, I just don't see it happening.

I'm slightly frustrated about how Jagr could actually have ended up 2nd in all time points. Don't remember the numbers right now but I do recall another 3-4 seasons would realisticly be enough.

He could, but he wouldnt end up in a Pens uniform. Well, unless its not until next year. From now to the end of the season he has to go through waivers, sort of like Wade Dublewicz. We saw how well that worked out for the Islanders, didnt we.

I'm quite certain no one would have thought he was coming this year anyway.

Kariya, in his prime and fresh off a 81 point season, played for Colorado for well under the league average a few years ago. He did it as a favor to Selanne, who was also signing with Colorado.

Jagr says he wants to do it as a favor to Mario. I can see this happening. Maybe not for league minimum, but for the league average.

I would be ecstatic if Jagr were to come for the league minimum. I loved watching him play with Lemeiux. Him with Malkin and Crosby would likely rival that.

No.

Even if he would play for league minimum, and I don't know why anybody would assume that the supremely flighty Jaromir Jagr would actually follow through on something he said to the Czech press, he's under contract in Russia for two seasons without an out clause. Ain't happening.
