Sergei Kostitsyn chimes in on Sid

And who is the most overhyped player?

It is probably Crosby, just like everyone says, just like Semin said recently. It is true that [he gets] a lot of attention. If you ask me, I think Semin and Ovechkin play much better than Crosby.

But you have to agree that Sidney Crosby is a great player with great skill. It's not for nothing he is considered one of the best players.

Yes, he is very technically skilled. But Semin, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Malkin are more technically skilled. And it's not because they are Russian, it's just my opinion.

People wonder why crosby says nothing outside of the box.

It's probably because he gets so much silly attention when some 2nd rate player like kostitsyn or semin comes out and yaps.

There really isn't any other player in the NHL that is even hyped at all, so I guess it would be Crosby by default because of the comparisons when he came into the league...

The three best players in the league are Crosby/Malkin/Ovechkin the order is debatable, but the players aren't, imo...

The most overhyped player in the NHL is on his team.

Price.

That's what happens when you're the designated posterboy of the NHL and are not leading in any statistical category that people care about. Not a knock on Sid but just the way people think.

If Sid were leading the league in goals, no one would say anything.

If Sid were leading the league in points by a big margin, no one would say anything.

As with anything, when you're on top, people try to bring you down. That's just life.

This year, regardless of points, he's right on about Ovechkin and Malkin. If you look at Semin's PPG, he can be argued as doing better this year as well.

Love Sid or not, he's not the same player this year. He's making a ton of mental mistakes (too many passes and not shooting the puck). Sid's effort is there but there is a part of his game missing.

Agreed. Sid doesn't seem right. He hasn't seemed "himself" for a while now...

thanks ~ Sergei Kostitsyn... don't pull the tiger's tail, don't tweak the nose.
One of these days I want to see Sidney express his emotions that others get to freely express.

exactly, he never said he was overRATED, he said he was overHYPED. Saying that the media should focus on Malkin, AO, Savard, Boyle, Chara etc. other guys that are having great seasons.
It must be a little annoying for some players to play with guys like Chara and Boyle who are Norris candidates and always be asked "so what do you think about Crosby?".
My answer to that would be "who cares, he isnt my teammate, ask me about someone on my team, unless we are playing him tonight, then i might have a different answer"
I love Sid, but other players must be getting sick of it a little bit. Would be like asking Jagr, or Stevens back in the day, so what about Gretzky, isnt he the greatest?

that's not the part that bothered me. it's the "If you ask me, I think Semin and Ovechkin play much better than Crosby."

much better? really? although nationalism probably plays a big part of this quote.

If you already have it decided in your mind that Sidney Crosby is the best player in the league then more power to you. Who cares what other people's opinions are, especially people on other teams? If I was a player on another team I wouldn't kowtow to Sid either.

When I saw this title I said, "WHO chimes in on Sid?" Then when I realized who it was I said, "Really?"

I agree with tPB 100%. Sidney Crosby needs to turn heel

Yes, it is because they are Russian. Russians have a tendency to look down their noses at the West. We aren't as sophisticated, we are a relatively young (in terms of Eastern Europe) culture and we overall are a boorish lot. We can't possibly be their equal.

I know this because one of my Russian co-workers tries to tell me this on a daily basis.

To me the key phrase was it's just my opinion.

Many fans and some players feel the same way, and it's not because they are irrational and jealous.

It's not an insane opinion to think that Sid is over-hyped or GASP over-rated.

Over-rated is a relative concept. If you say somebody is over-rated you aren't saying they suck.
