Back to basics.

Postby Jesse on Thu Jan 29, 2009 2:28 pm

Not the players, but us, the fans.

How much money would you give to watch 66 take one more shift in his 23 year old body?

Let's keep that in mind as we go forward.

Well said. Everytime the team frustrates the hell out of me, I take comfort in the fact that though they could very well be in KC right now, they're still the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Great job Jesse. One thing many Pens fans fail to realize is that no matter what happens the rest of the season, this organization is better off than almost everyother one in the NHL.

We have the leagues poster boy in Sid Crosby who is 21. We have the leagues leading scorer in Evgeni Malkin who is 22. We have one of the most gifted goalies in the league in MAF. We have one of the best defensemen in the league coming back soon in Sergei Gonchar. We have several young promising players in Staal, Letang, and Gogo. And add to that we are going to be moving into a world class arena soon.

We fans get wrapped up too much in wins and losses and lose sight of the big picture. The big picture with the Penguins is that we have the best young core in the league and have a great chance to win multiple Cups in the near future, even if we don't this season.

This is one of the best times to be a Pens fan if not the best. We need to give our players all the support we can to help them drive towards the playoffs. Let's turn the Igloo into one of the hardest places to get a win at again.

Solid read, as usual.

"Get emotional, cheer your team, be vocal, but above all, appreciate."

Agreed. Not nearly enough people do that last one.

Remember what it's like seeing Sidney and Evgeni work their magic on the ice, and appreciate it every time you see it, even if it doesn't turn into a goal. It is these players you will be reminiscing about down the road when a new generation of Penguins take the ice.

A great article. The Zach reference at the end sort of threw me off, I'm hoping Orpik smears him first shift of the game :D

I think the Pens dominance in the playoffs last year has spoiled us somewhat as hockey fans. We witnessed hockey dominance consistently for 3 rounds. It was a thing of beauty, and now we are looking at the ugly duckling (penguin). I hope that it grows up fast.

Basically, I enjoy watching the sport of hockey. I know very little about the NHL as a whole and even less of the game itself, but it is still just a fun game to watch. Win or lose.
