Pens are interested in Hejduk!!!

I personally would love to see this guy in the Pens uniform...and would give up Whitney OR Staal + a bag of pucks for him.

Obviously, he would have to waive his no-trade clause...

What's his contract situation/why are we looking for scoring when defense is our real weakness?

Don't get carried away with the value of Hejduk. I am fairly sure that he has said that his knee needs surgery and that he intends to retire at the end of his current deal (after next season) instead of get the surgery needed on his knee right now and miss time. Don't have time to grab a link, but, something more has to be coming back for Whitney or Staal. Chris Stewart maybe?

hejduk would be a nice addition, but he'll be 33 in a few weeks, and IMO we could fetch a much younger player that still has a lot of really good years ahead of him for the price of whitney or staal

You're getting a little carried away with giving up Whitney/Staal for him.

He's signed through next season but we have to dump Satan's contract to fit him in.

He would be a great signing, but Im pretty sure he is only signed thru next year, and there have been rumors that he wants to retire and return home at the end of his contract.

Hejduk is a great two way player, I think team defense as a whole needs to improve, not just from a defensman standpoint.

If we trade Whitney or Staal or both the return needs to be players of similar age and upside.

This.

If you are going to trade one of the two, get something in return that will help you in the long term. Not someone with a one year contract, an aging guy on the decline of his career, or someone with injury issues.

Hejduk was the man 5 years ago, and has played well, but he is not going to help the Pens long term.

Not only that, but Hedgeduck is not a physical force. I'd take him for the right price, though. If you're gonna get a veteran for only a few years who can still score 30, go for Tkachuk. He is reasonable (4 mil) for a 30+ goal man (and he'd certainly score at least that number playing with Sid) and he could be the new Gary Roberts on the team. We need a guy in front of the net on powerplays who is impossible to move, like a fire hydrant. That is Tkachuk's game - straight ahead and no dipsy-doodling with the puck.

I would think Sykora when thinking about Hejduk.

Yeah, he'd be an upgrade in adding another player of that caliber but, I think this team needs something else.

Can Statsny play wing :-)

EDIT: Before anyone crucifies me -- I'm kidding. I am just playing fantasy GM.

ROFL!

Anyways, as trade offers go, I'd throw Leopold in with Hejduk and try and get Staal and Whitney out.

I guess other boards are as bad -- I mean WORSE than us.

Ok one intelligent poster:

Somehow I doubt they are going to trade their 20 year old Staal, who has the potential for well over 30 goals for an aging winger who has had trouble getting to that plateau for the last several years. Then we want to trade any one of our defensemen, for Whitney, a very young good defenseman. So let me get this straight, we want to trade our old, players who are in their back nine, for their young, fast, improving players? Sounds like a deal to be proud of.

wacko.gif

Let's be serious, if they make the trade, it will likely be for someone like Kennedy, unless we throw in some picks or prospects. Hejduk's value isn't the best anymore, at his age.

I'm sorry I'm clogging up the thread, but these are utterly priceless.

I agree completely. Outside of Malkin, Crosby, Staal and Fluery, there is nobody on that team worth dealing for. Whitney seems to be a slighty better version of Salei. No thanks.

Why not try to on up the Pens and ask for Malkin? Offer Stastny/Wolski, Hejduk, Leo/Clark, Budaj and picks for Malkin and Garon. A blockbuster like that would do this team good. That was a good idea from the poster above.

I'd like to see Iginla in a Pens uni too.

It doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Ya, it is pretty obsurd... and sooo funny!

Malkin and Sid and Fluery are the Penguins franchise for the next 10 years!
