How bout some good ol' Trivia

Postby JeffDFD on Thu Jan 29, 2009 4:04 pm

As usual...dont cheat and use the internet. Post your answers below. Type in your guess first before you read others responses...blah blah blah

Q1. With which PGH teammate did Mario share the captaincy of the Pens for the first time in 87-88?

Q2. Crosby's first hat trick...Who did he score it against? (Name the team Team and Goalie - slightly trick question)? What was the final score?

Q3. (Not Pens related!!! NPR!!!) Who did the Quebec Nordiques select with three consecutive first-overall picks in the NHL ENtry Draft in 1991 (edit: consecutive 1st picks 3 consecutive years)?

Another fact that is entertaining but not a question: 51-52 Wings had two names incorrectly spelled on the Cup. Alex Delvecchio became "Belvecchio" and Coach Tommy Ivan became "Nivan." Just imagine is something liek that happened today.. Sindey Crosby? Evgeni Nalkin? haha.

Sid's hat trick was against Philly. Hard to forget that 8-2 pounding. Back then they had Niittymaki and Esche. Considering it's a trick question I'm guessing he scored on both netminders.

# 1 i think is Frawley
I was thinking question #2 was against Eshe
#3 i would agree...

# 1 i think it was Frawley
#2 it was against Eshe and Nini and the flyers final score was 8-2
#3 Lindros, Nolan, Sundin/or Deadmarsh?

FWIW, I just looked up the '91 draft on hockeydb.com, and the Nords only had one first round pick that year. So the question is improperly worded. It was first overall picks in 1989, 90, 91.

1. Dan Frawley was the last Pens captain before Lemieux was named

2. Esche and Nittymaki

3. Sundin, Nolan, Lindros

Forsberg was actually a mid first round pick who was part of the package the Flyers used to acquire Lindros when he refused to sign with the Nords

Nolan was the first pick in a pretty successful draft year. 1. Nolan 2. Nedved 3. Keith Primeau 4. Mike Ricci 5. Jagr (Communism helped the Pens land Jags)

The Pens had a string of 5 top 5 picks in a row starting with Lemieux. They would have had the #1 pick the previous season, but traded it. Two part question.

1)Starting with Lemieux, name the five consecutive top 5 picks?

2)What did the Pens receive for the first pick in 1983? Who was drafted first?

Ah...I must have either read it wrong or it was worded oddly on the paper i got it from...that makes much more sense!

1: Dan Frawley?
2: October 28, 2006 I think. At Flyers, Crosby scored 3 of the first 5 goals in the 8-2 game, Pens ran Nittymaki in favor of Esche. I remember the date because it was the first Pens game I watched on TV since I was in elementary school.
3: Mats Sundin, Owen Nolan, Eric Lindros

Lemieux
Simpson
Zalapski
McEachern?
Shannon

2: Lawton was the first pick, the North Stars Traded the pens the 15th pick and two players that I don't remember.
