Wings vs Flyers

Postby longtimefan on Wed Nov 04, 2009 10:39 am

I was listening to ESPN radio this morning, and they were talking about how Met fans were in a no win situation, because they hate both the Yankees and Phillies. It got me wondering, how would Pens fans feel if the Red Wings were to meet the Flyers in the Stanley Cup Finals? Who would you root for? After playing the Wings for two straight years, we've developed a pretty healthy hate for them. The Flyer hate has been around since the two teams entered the league together, and Pittsburgh fans tend to hate all things Philadelphia. Or, do you cringe at the thought of another matchup as bad or worse?

Why would you have to root for either one? I wouldn't give a crap.

The point is moot however since the Flyers will not sniff the finals as long as Crosby plays in the east.

red wings. only because they'll feel smug no matter what. if philly loses, implosion, panic and self-loathing will ensue.

I would probably root for the Wings. As much as there's a bit of a rivalry that's come up a bit in the last year, 15 years from now I am doubtful that there will be the same kind of rivalry and hate, because an east-west rivalry isn't the same as a divisional rivalry. But you know there will always be hate for the Flyers or Caps, and hilarity always ensues when they fail.

Schmenguin is right, even if the Wings lost, they would still act like they have an annual God-given right to the Cup and that their crap doesn't stink. It certainly didn't change their attitudes when the Pens beat 'em.

Id root for the Wings, hands down. Whether or not you like their coach or their whiny players (cough::Draper::cough), they run their organization the right way. Philly is classless from the owner down to the fans and the organist.

Well, it's not going to happen.

But, I wouldn't watch. Just like the world series because I hate the yankees and phillies.

This did happen in 1997. I pulled for the wings 100%. I hate them but it in no way compares to the hate I hold for the philly. It was great to see the wings sweep the flyers, i still laugh about it.

Although I don't think this series is going to happen for MANY years to come, I would have to root for the Wings. Although I hated them with a passion for the past two years, for obvious reasons, nothing will ever top my hate for Filthadelphia.

Same. Flyers got swept and I laughed, and laughed, and laughed. Animosity towards the Wings is up significantly since then because of the past 2 SCFs, but it is not now and will not ever approach the unadulterated hate I feel towards the halloweenies.

Yeah, but Nik L is the only one I've nicknamed "The Man."

Besides, Henrik Zetterberg isn't important, he can't even beat out that Osgood guy for the starting job!

Wings, while I have dislike for them, most of that comes from comes from the past 2 years, for instance if the pens had played the Kings the past 2 seaons in the final, I'd probably not like them. Where as I have a lifetime of hatred for anyting out of Philthy.

When they played in the Finals in 1997, I didn't watch it.

I hated the Wings even back then due to family living up there.

If someone held a gun to my head and asked which one, I'd say Wings though. I never want the Flyers to win one, ever again.

BTW, NPR??

Red Wings by a large margin. They have a million cups anyway so who cares? The flyers are in a serious drought and I want it to continue.
