i thought this was interesting:

Fleury @ 3/4"?!?
Gonchar @ 1"?!?
edit: meant to say McKee and not Rupp who use that new flat bottom V-cut. looking even closer i guess neither does.

That is great. I saw it on the Pens Blog this morning.
So can someone help a brother out and decipher the skate blade sizes and stuff? It's like Greek to me.

Yeah, I have no idea what this means beyond the little schematic Bibsy was drawing the other night.

i hope this explains it:

as you can see, the smaller the fraction - the deeper the cut. fleury's shallow hollow for the style that he plays is truly mind boggling. his technique on his butterfly/lateral slides has to be almost perfect or he'll just slip out.

Sarge, really? No wonder he can shift down into "coast" mode at the drop of a hat...

Can someone explain the profile to me? I understood profile to mean the rocker length and pivot point, but when applied to 30/60 is doesn't make much sense.

There are some places here in St. Louis that cut the Flat-Bottom V. I switched to it and I liked it a lot. Had to play with the radius a bit, because it didn't translate exactly, but now that I've adjusted to it, I like it a lot. I use a 5/8" equivalent.

Most goalies I know get the 3/4". Goalie skates are a lot different than player skates. They have a lower center of gravity, they make lateral movement much easier, and the blade is wider. When the edge is sharp it is harder to get a smooth lateral motion, at least that's what I have experienced personally. I could go a month without sharpening my goalie skates, but the player skates I feel the need to sharped them weekly. What I am trying to say is sharper is not necessarily better with goalie skates.

The idea, as I understand it, is to keep going shallower until you can't turn without losing an edge then go one deeper. Worked for me anyways. Ended up with 7/16

Sid, 7/16"...... that's great. Typical fussy superstar. :p
I use a 1/2" hollow. Tried a 3/4" once and thought I was never going to be able to stop myself other than by running into the wall. I literally left the ice went to the skate guy and said "fix this, please". And he did.
Here endeth the lesson.

Same with Rupp. The guy scores 4 goals this year and thinks he can get the Crosby treatment

3/4.. less effort once you get going is much better when 5 forwards show up to your game.
