star RW ALEX KOVALEV also was displeased with the ice, but took a more philosophical view. "It will get better. Ice needs time to mature."

I believe they mentioned something about the Ice during the last Pens-FLyers game on how it took the flyers a year to get new ice in their building because its a whole new learning curve, new machines, new water, etc.. I am confident as the year goes on they will figure it out, plus we get a visit from the NHL ice guru during the winter classic when he setups the ice at Heinz field, maybe he can give the guys doing the CEC ice some tips.

My brother-in-law (Pitt's head coach) said the CEC ice was terrible for last weekend's RMU Hockey Showcase.

The ice looked stunningly bad. They might as well play ball hockey after the first 5 minutes. I hope this is a priority.

it was better last night than it has been all season, but that's sort of like a gold medal/special olympics analogy

How bad is the ice?
MSG or Verizon Center bad?

Why? It's a brand new building.
Makes no sense.

I remember the same explanation. IIRC, good ice requires fiddling with both the arena's HVAC system and the chiller system for the ice. Stuff like opening the doors on the loading docks can significantly change the temperature or humidity in the building and call for adjustments to compensate, but as everything is new the crew doesn’t know yet that they need setting Y for condition X or they need to increase Z if W happens. I can easily see it taking a cycle through the seasons and significant trial and error to get a handle on how to keep the ice at its best.

Superstar Sidney Crosby and his Pittsburgh Penguins teammates do not like the ice at their spiffy new arena, the Consol Energy Center.

The ice is so choppy that Crosby said he has to "work twice as hard" to skate as fast as he does at the team's practice rink in suburban Pittsburgh.

The Flyers have complained about it, too. But there were no gripes after they continued to frustrate the Penguins on Friday night.

not a good thing to have these ice problems and the team is supposed to be built around speed and skill.

That's even worse then -- so basically playing at home over the course of the season will result in the Pens being a little more tired than every other team?

They said when Philly opened their building it took them almost a year to get the ice to a "good" level.

We sure looked like we had a lot more team speed tonight, I'll say that much -- dunno or not if ice is responsible for that but it's a possibility.

It's just sorta disheartening to hear a player like Sid who's really susceptible to lower-body injuries saying he has to work twice as hard to skate well on the CEC ice.

it's not that difficult of a concept to grasp that one team would have more trouble with bad ice than another. we're the former.
