Marty Griffin is not in the Penguins' corner, typically. Please post summary.

Is this specifically arena talk, or just Onorato on the radio being interviewed?

Well so far it just seems to me that Onorato is still dodging the questions. He talks about how he wants anybody who gets the license to pay for the arena. Yet we know that only one applicant has explicitly put the arena in their proposal.

So apparently he wants to make whoever gets the license build the arena? Well there's one proposal that guarantees right now that they will build an arena. Then he criticizes US for caring who gets it rather than just simply caring about getting an arena?

He mentioned Madden by name? What about the other guys who are trashing him, like Grove and Junker and Crowe??? Doesn't he know that he's being called out all over the place? Even Stan has cast aspersions his way.

The woman called and said that these people who are pro-IoC and talking about conspiracy are just wanting to keep the "hockey" She said people need to settle down and let Onorato and the politicians do their job. And she said don't listen to double M on that other station. Then Onorato said "yes he's spreading these rumors about me"

Onorato has said.

1) I can't endorse any plan because the gaming board is still waded through the info

2) there might be problems with one of the applicants, AS RUMOR HAS IT, I am not going to say which, and their ability to deliver promises.

He prefaced the above by saying, "hey, what if we find one of the companies is near bankruptcy"

CLEARLY INTIMATING THAT THEY MIGHT FIND PROBLEMS WITH IOC.

3) at the end of the day, I am going to ASK the gaming board to put some guidelines for winner to fund new arena

Marty Griffin, very obnoxious, very anti Penguins.

"What is this, Pittsburgh Penguins casino radio. Come on people don't be so greedy with air time?"

I finally found a radio to listen to and heard a man calling him pout about the Ioc Plan...they came back from a commercial and asked to drop all the IOc calls. I think this states that the public has support for that plan, no?

Onorato

"It is NOT A FREE ARENA."

Then he says, "it involves $60 million in land donation."

"I will not be bullied into doing something I do not agree with it."

"The plan is moving too slow."

Now they are intimating it might take 2-3 years MORE to get this done.

Onorato

"We have to ready for all different scenarios, because it is all moving too slow"

"Forest City gave a campaign contribution to Roddy who ran against me. Everyone from all sides has contributed to all applicants."

"I have no vote."

Someone said that he could lose election because of it.

"Then I move on with my life."

Oronato does make some good complaints about the slowness of the process. Doesn't think they need an entire year or more to make a decision.

He also does state (rightly so) that it is in everyone's best interest to have back-up plans for the arena.

--- They just cut off a guy who was saying "no vote". :D

"I am doing everything I can to get a new MPF. I am with you Pen's fans.
Lets let the process work."

Marty Griffin,

MOCKINGLY "hey, let's give a let's go Pens chant before we go."
**starts laughing***

"Oh my, what a horrible team."

He concluded by sayin to all the Pen's fans that he is with us. His goal is to get a new arena WITH gaming money - NOT tax dollars. He says to let the process play out and let's review in detail all the applicants. He believes they will be successful in getting the arena and keeping the Pens here.

Don't shoot the messenger...just letting you all know.

Hope Onorato is right.

I think I'm going to inform KDKA of my opinion on Mr. Griffin. If they are going to allow him to use the radio station to espouse his views on the hockey team, they should give equal time to people with opposing views.

They'd never let him trash the Pirates like this, because they are on the "team".

Does anyone know if the pens would be willing to stay without their own plan being selected? I know they can't discuss it any longer but what is their stance on having an arena built other ways? Are they planning to go if their plan isn't selected even say forrest city says they'll pay for a new arena?

Don't get me wrong I want the IoC plan to get the license, but I want to know the pens stance on this.

They'd better be flexible, because the writing is on the wall. Capri is NOT getting that license.

I agree. Hey if people are concerned enough about this issue to call, then it is an important issue. He was upset that it was Pittsburgh Penguins casino show. Obviously people care enough to call and voice their opinions. Also I liked how the one caller said "Marty, you don't have to defend Dan. He is a politician. Let him defend himself." Which is true. Let the guy handle himself. Marty trying to defend Dan just dimishes his credibility. It's obvious his anti-Penguins bias shows through. I emailed MM. Hopefully he'll mention this on his show today.
