Its time to move the top pick

Postby randy on Sun Jan 29, 2006 2:47 pm

This is definitely the year to move our first rounder. The top two in this draft are rather nothing astonishing, more likely just good servicable players, are probably crap shoots or are similar to whats already here.. Its not too late to begin the retooling now, and we could get a good, established 23-26 year old guy, especially on d, like a nick boynton or nick schultz for instance, someone who could step in now and contribute. we have enough young talent. It needs supplemented with some more established players. This is now the way to go, now take more chances with risky UFA's whom by the way I told you all last summer would not pan out

It's too early. It makes no sense to trade your #1 before you know where you are slotted.

We're so proud of your prediction that the UFAs wouldn't work out.
Kudos to you.

stick with me...im always right. I say something only to have the pros back it up with their statements. See last summer under Burke, Sean

Sean Burke decided to sign elsewhere. It wasn't the Pens choice to pass on him.

Trade 1st pick (if is forward) for Oveckhin, keep only d-man

Postby Pens4Life on Sun Jan 29, 2006 3:16 pm

Line Surovy - Malkin - Oveckhin would be great...
I would take erik Johnson as 1pick and nothing else,i would trade Gonchar plus 1st round 1pick for two good 23-31 years old players.

I can't believe I'm adding to the absurdness of this, but Ovechkin plays on his off-wing.

anything involving Ovechkin on this team is downright laughable.

Well, go read his latest post on the old board and it shouldn't surprise you that he'd mention it.

"LeClair and Gonchar for Bertuzzi and Jovanovski. But we might have to throw in a 2nd round pick to make it work."

LOL... Hell, maybe we can get Naslund too if we throw in Koltsov and/or a 6th round pick.

Nevermind Jovanovski's played about 2 or 3 games the last month with a groin injury...

Only for more picks.....

Postby tluke53 on Sun Jan 29, 2006 5:02 pm

I wouldn't move down unless its is for multiple first round picks. One thing to remember is that 4 years from now we will have to pay all these high picks big bucks. That could be a 3/4 of the salary cap.

Not a bad idea. I wouldn't be opposed to moving our first rounder for a stud defenseman.

Or we could offer our first rounder to anyone willing to take Gonchar off our hands.

You're going to keep Gonchar. He has produced too much over the past 4-5 years to just get rid of him without getting something good in return.

Cross, you just don't exercise his option. See how he does this year, if he improved...keep him as the 7th defensemen. If not, then goodbye. Frankly, I'd shoot for Carins to be my 7th d-man and hope to improve to the point where won't be needed to play every night.

Melichar, hes young enough someone will take a shot on him at the deadline for a conditional draft pick. Much like Andy Ference.

Odeline will probably ride the I/R the rest of the season and retire at the end of the year.

Endicott, try to push him through waivers (that wont be hard) and let him play at WBS. He is effective there and will help them with their playoff run.

RVB and Roy will have to be released.
