Unfortunately, I agree

Intentional in the result, no. Intentional in that Nystrom didn't even try and play the puck, yes.

It's exactly the hit Craig Adams put on Daniel Alfreddson last year or the year before. Alfie reached and basically put himself in a position like that. But the rule has changed, intentional or not - you can't hit the guy there and you certainly can't make direct contact to the head. If Matt Cooke has to change, everyone has to change.

that rule doesn't apply when you are facing the man. letang wasn't hit from behind, so toss that out the window

Marc Savard was technically facing Cooke

no, cooke was perpendicular with him.

Disappointed again in the lack of reaction of the guys on the ice to a hit like that. They just huddle around Nystrom and don't do anything to him. That's why teams keep targeting our best players.

I thought it looked more shoulder to shoulder too...but Letang was holding his head.

Nystrom took full advantage of the fact that Tanger put himself in a bad position.

You're right... I was combining the Pacioretty hit from earlier this year to the Cooke hit.

Pacioretty still got suspended for a similar hit, though.

Too bad "Boarding" can't be described as - he put himself in a bad position and it was just a good hit.

Letang is done for the season, but hey we got a PP out of it.

Gotta love how pretty much every team in the league has no fear about going after our top players.

The hit on Letang was a case of a player who plays the body first hitting a defenseman who put himself in a vulnerable position. Letang made the mistake of having his chin out in front of his body.

Saying Nystrom brought his elbow up is just wrong.

It was Letang's fault. Part of staying healthy is being smart, and that was not smart

Why did Nystrom get a penalty...? He didn't do anything...Letang tried to make a slick play and got clocked...it's terribly unfortunate, but what is Nystrom supposed to do there? Shouldn't have even gotten 2 minutes for that...

i imagine Letang will have to be in the quiet room, since he had a concussion. one would hope, they wouldn't send letang out for the 2nd.

He hit a Penguin hard. Therefore it's a death penalty offense.

In all seriousness Letang put himself in a bad position and Nystrom made no effort to avoid going for Tanger's head.

I didn't see Letang get a stick on it the second time but he does move his elbow back to make contact with Letang's head. Slight but definite move there.
