2012 NHL Draft Pittsburgh Tickets

Postby emptyfriend on Mon Apr 23, 2012 5:17 pm

Does anyone know how the ticket process works for the draft weekend? Are they made available through Ticketmaster, etc.? Do they sell 18k tickets? Any ideas on date of release? I now the NHL site says check back for more info but that's been it since they announced it was in Pit....

I'll take a wild guess that STH will receive draft tickets.

It'll probably be the "the opportunity" to buy draft tickets before the general public. Nothing's free.

It was free in '07 in Columbus so if the Pens charge me, I'll pass on account of already having attended a draft.

I would pay good money for the All Star Game Weekend though.

it was free in 1998 in buffalo when i went. i doubt they charge for tickets. they probably set aside a ton for draftees/family members. the rest are fair game to the public. the nhl wants a full arena, and charging for tickets may not guarantee that.

Got an email earlier today tickets will be free of charge for season ticket holders.

Full plan is allowed to request if they want Friday(1st round) or Saturday(rounds 2-7).

Half season plan is only allowed to request for Saturday(rounds 2-7).

Each season ticket holder will recieve the same amount of tickets that are on their account.

All tickets are upper bowl and general admission.

Sounds very boring to me, i don't follow amateur hockey so i wouldn't know anyone except the top 5 guys. I like watching and listening to draft experts talk on TV and mentions the suprises and players who fell futher than expected. To go and sit around for 2 hours until we pick wouldn't be much fun, even with alcahol

Yea... I LOVE hockey, I just don't get how this would be fun though tbh.

I guess I'd go just to experience it / find out for myself

No idea how they're going to sell them to the general public but there won't be 18k tickets available-- a large portion of the lower bowl won't be available as they'll be seating the draftees and their families down there along with executives, families of executives, NHL ops people, press and media, etc. And they'll probably have to take a lot of the seats out to make room for all of the tables for the teams.

STH got an email saying that they can request complimentary tickets but only to one day, not both, and it's while tickets last-- first come/first serve then a wait list once they run out of however many they are reserving for STH initially (no doubt they'll release tickets to the waiting list if they don't manage to sell the rest). Full season plans can pick either Friday or Saturday and half season plans can only request tickets for Saturday. They also specifically say that the STH seats will be in the upper bowl.

You'll probably be able to buy tickets on Stubhub before Ticketmaster.

I'd never pay for tickets to the draft, just seems boring to me. I don't even know if I'd go for free to be honest.

The draft really isn't worth paying to attend- particularly the second day. When I attended in Columbus, the 2nd day was sitting in a seat and listening to GM's call out obscure names every 30 sec.-2 min. With lots of yawning since it started at 9 am.

The highlight was getting a photo with Akim Aliu in his Blackhawks jersey right outside the men's room. And discussing hockey with a knowledgeable Predators fan.

But if you had to pay, those things aren't worth it.

I would love to get tickets to both days and would be willing to let STH make a few bucks off me as well. I already made hotel reservations so just trying to get tickets now for both days.

I have no desire to go to the second day of the draft. If that's the day I end up getting you can have them.

I'm gonna request two for the 1st day as my preference. I won't be able to go as I've rented a house in the Outer Banks starting that Saturday, and driving from NJ to Pittsburgh then back to NJ and then to NC in 24 hours sounds crazy even for me....

My dads company has a suite at cec and they got an email saying that per NHL rules all suites are reserved for teams to entertain potential draft picks. But, they can request tix to fri or sat. I gotta tell you, the only ways I would attend the draft if I was getting drafted or if I got to eat and drink in the suite. I can't skate so my getting drafted is probably pretty low. Even disney on ice was fun with food and drink, and the tv tuned to something else!

Watching professional drafts are some of my favorite things in sports. I agree, I feel like it would be boring to go to one. I like watching TSN and such during it.

I went to Columbus in 2007 and it was pretty interesting, but the second day was pretty boring. If you're a hockey fan, it's something you should go to if you have the opportunity. If you can, go to the first day. A lot more exciting. Booing Gary Bettman was a blast. Not a single person cheered for him. And the whole arena gave Gretzky a standing ovation when he came onto the stage haha

I've requested tix for the First Round, and am hoping I can get tix for the 2nd day also. Renting a room downtown and making a weekend of it.

I will buy Jesse beer all day if I can sit next to him. Better than TSN.
