Would Martin,Kennedy and 1st rounder be enough for Edmonton's 1st pick?

I don't think Edmonton would take that deal.

Is this a serious proposal?

I don't think Martin, Kennedy and a 1st would be enough to get Andy Sutton from Edmonton....

Lets see, if I remember right, the year the Pens won the cup they led the league in penalty minutes, fighting majors, and misconducts. This year the Pens played the good little boys, one game excluded, and got bounced by the bad boys. Not saying that the Pens need to go back to the Lemuix Street Bullies  , but Me thinks they need some of that back.

You seriously over-value Andy Sutton.

Can't be.

Counter from Edmonton:

Ryan Whitney, Ryan Jones and a 1st for Evgeni Malkin

Since it is Sunday morning and everyone around here is clearly feeling a little jerky, would anyone consider....

To Edmonton: Malkin and Martin
To Pittsburgh: Taylor Hall, Jeff Petry and their 1st pick in the 2012 draft

?

Maybe if we knew we were signing Parise and Weber to long-term, affordable contracts.

In a less round-about way, no.

Well I think it would.

First off.....Staal stays and centers the second line. In all likelihood Staal and letang could be locked up long term.

Second....13 million in cap space creates a real opportunity for the pens to land either Weber or Suter this summer. I guess its a matter of opinion but I think this team is going to be a better team with Weber or Suter than Geno.

Third......Hall and Yakupov. Enough said.....not bad depth for the top six. Hall is probably a 75 point guy now alongside Sid.

I guess the short answer is we would be a better team because we would be a more balanced team.

I could see Shero trying to buy "cheap" on Chris Stewart in STL. He's a RFA and the Blues will most likely not be looking to re-sign him...

RS wants to retain Crosby and Staal. Whether he can do that depends on their contract demands and the cap, which is TBD based on the CBA.

He has stated that it would be tough to lose a player like Staal in FA for nothing, but if those questions dont get answered in time, he is open to going to UFA next summer with both players, rather than dealing away key players prior to what will be another prime chance to go for a cup.

I for one don't think Crosby gets a huge raise. He is, at present along with Malkin, still the 2nd highest paid player in the league, second to Ovechkin. Despite the cap going up every year since the lockout, salaries for the elite talent has not balooned in kind. I see a modest raise to the 9-10 million range, or could even see him getting extended at 8.7million.

As for Staal, its more about the role he wants to play on the team than it is about the money I believe. If he wants to stay here and play 3rd C or switch to wing, with 2nd team powerplay time, the deal will get done. If he wants to be the guy, it wont. As for money, if Staal says he wants to stay, the first thing you do is point to Neal's contract. 40 goal scorer with a physical presence. Does the little things right. 5 million per season. With that as a baseline, JS can't ask for more than 6m. We can handle that, especially if we move PM.

As to all you people looking to trade Crosby or Malkin, get real. RS will not trade those two, or Staal, unless it is a necessity. for Staal, it may be to keep the other two. For Sid or Geno, they aren't going anywhere.

The last reigning Art Ross trophy winner to be traded, was Jagr. The last reigning Hart trophy winner to be traded was never. No MVP was traded within a season of winning the MVP. The only one to be close is Jagr, who was within 2 seasons, but was traded for a variety of reasons.

What's important to realize is that superstars, like Roy and Jagr, while they have been traded, it wasn't for the same reasons we'd be trading Malkin.

Just sayin'

If Leino gets 4.5m you can guarantee that staal is going to get 6m. Hes worth 6m nothing more in my opinion.

The typical going rate for a second line centerman in the NHL right now is right around $5-5.5M. I could easily see Staal landing somewhere right in there. Being Shero's first and (by far) most successful draftee, I could see Jordan sticking around for a long term deal right at $5,000,000.
