Per a Mirtle tweet - Although he has a year remaining on his contract, Caps let Vokoun explore other NHL teams. Several (I'm guessing one being the Pens) expressed a desire to sign him to a multi-year deal.

EDIT - And the Pens just tweeted he's signed for 2 years.

He doesn't have a year remaining, though. He is a UFA.

The Penguins then signed Vokoun to a two-year contract worth an average annual value of $2 million. Vokoun’s contract begins with the 2012-13 season and runs through the 2013-14 campaign.

Now I'm confused whether I like this or not. $2m is a lot for a backup goaltender, especially for the situation that the Pens are in with the salary cap.

first off season move is a good one. Johnson was done and Fleury had to play way too much because of it. Now Vokoun can play some and keep Fleury fresh.
