Sure were, but I'm not going to solely consider him terrible when you had 20+ Million committed to the cap not performing either.

Clearly RS thought MAF was a big reason why the Pens can't do anything in the playoffs, as he just signed the best backup goalie in the league.

This is incorrect. I mean, just Philadelphia alone spends more than us and will likely get far less out of their goalies than we do.

Thiessen is probably gonna be gonezo too... you'd have to figure he'd rather sign somewhere he can have a chance to be the backup

Great backup and if he can push Fleury, all the better.

Awesome, going into this year BJ was "the best backup in the league" and Vokoun was a starter who got stupidly replaced by Neuvy. Or maybe RS realizes that you can't workhorse a goalie like they've been doing and expect him to perform consistently when the play-offs start. It's a whole combination of things rather than just one person "sucking."

I'm really curious as to how many games he'll get if all goes well (no injuries / extended MAF slumps)

I'd be happy with 25 games, but I have a feeling DB might just play MAF as usual

You're assuming he'll be the backup. I wouldn't bet against a Fleury trade.

Well if that happens and DB continues the same old same old. Just get it over with and fire DB because he's either unable or unwilling to learn from his mistakes.

Like others have mentioned.....the thought here is:

More Rest For Fleury, hopefully will be fresher for playoffs.
Have a better backup, which will lead to more wins and points in the standings, easier first round opponent.
If Fleury gets injured, still have a legitimate starting NHL goaltender.
For 2 million per, that's a steal.

Two year deal for $2 million, probably means he's the backup. Or at the very least he isn't slated to be the starter.

game six, clod's 1st goal~ of course the pens were only down by 1 , but none except Evgeni, came ready to play. otherwise , 2 hurt d men with aching hips, martin ,and brooks playing like a 29 year old rookie.
Forwards who only wanted to score and a PK that was clueless...but yes, he should have overcame all of that!

Fleury's regular season was great. April; a diaster.

If Johnson is done I'd love to see the organization keep him on as a coach. Pens usually reward good character with other jobs and Johnson has been a great teammate ad player for this organization in his short time here.

Fleury was not "over-worked". Fleury's a head case. Hopefully having Vokoun around will ensure he doesn't let his mind wander and lose his focus

I said it tongue and cheek before, but I really wouldn't be shocked to see a Fleury for Price trade......Montreal would love to have a star French Canadian goaltender.

One thing I really like about this is that hopefully by having a better backup in Vokun, he can provide some more relief to MAF in the regular season so that he doesnt have to start so many games.

I mean, Vokoun is no spring chicken. I'm not sure I'd rely on him being a starter at this point. He wasn't exactly amazing last year, but he's very consistent throughout his career. And he's the league's best or one of the best backups at this point. He's no better than a split time goalie on an average team though at this point. So trading Fleury, obviously, is not an option...it's bologna, it doesn't make sense.

All I know is, when MAF craps the bed next playoff, we know have a chance to recover. This better be a wakeup call to MAF to get his head together, because he is clearly on the road to becoming a has-been.
