Vokoun = informal phonetic version of "okoun", i.e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perch

correct pronunciation:

I knew thread like this was coming, Tomas haha. I know that Vo-koon isn't right, my guess was VO-kown - which wasn't close. Thanks for this!

I'm heading over to the Czech Republic as part of my vacation. I'm seriously considering getting Vokoun put on one of my Pens jerseys just to see if I can get a wtf out of any of my Czech comrades.

Tomas, thanks for the translations. I have a very hard time convincing North Americans that most TV announcers often mispronounce Czech hockey players names. Someone should send the Pens media teams that link.
