Well, what I meant was that Orpik is a more physical defenseman than Martin is.

Between P Martin and Brooks, I want Brooks back. I appreciate Martin's remarks and wish him good head health. Throughout the 2 years he's played okay, average with peaks and valleys.
Looks like everybody is going to stay and we'll have the same team.

I've always been confused with Paul Martin.

From what I remember of him with New Jersey, he was solid in his position in the defensive zone and he was New Jersey's Power-Play quarterback and then he comes to the Penguins and he sort of just doesn't really fit anywhere. He doesn't fit on our powerplay with our team having talent's like Letang and so on and defensively he's very soft and hasn't made great decision's with clearing attempt's or first passes towards the breakout.

I don't think he's a bad player , but where doe's he fit on our team?

We have enough "mobile" defenseman. We really need physical presence to intimidate, slow down and generally disrupt opposing team cycle's.

I'm not sure whether Shero and Bylsma are really still high on Martin as they claimed following the playoffs this season, or they are trying to keep his value up for the sake of a trade.

It is starting to seem to me that any trading of defensemen would not involve Martin or Michalek. What are the odds that Letang ends up being one of the two defensemen traded?

If they trade Letang, i'll probably rant about how my indifference towards Shero has turned to hate and then disappear from the board for a few weeks/months. It will be a great summer for many.

I think everyone, including myself, would like to think Martin is the most likely to get traded...however, I don't think that's the fact. I think Lovejoy is the first to get moved and from all that I've read that appears to be the case. Word on Martin is that Shero and Bylsma are still very happy with Martin, but that of course would just be because they of course won't say anything negative.

I'm hoping that Martin is one of the likely players to get moved. I would also like to see Orpik get moved, but I just don't see it happening. I think that Orpik could be more effective playing as a lower paired defenseman if the penguins don't keep him. Who the heck knows what's going to happen at this point. There is so much speculation regarding the Penguins that I think so much is up in the air that we could see moves made we had no idea would happen.

EDIT: According to some articles I read about sources close to the organization is that the Penguins feel it would be in bad form to trade Martin because despite how most feel his cap hit is too high, he actually turned down higher offers to play here. Now, I don't know if there's any truth to that or if that's something a GM takes into consideration.

I don't see Letang being trade...right now anyway. Despite the Karlsson signing setting the bar and possibly really raising the bar on what Dmen will get paid, the Penguins are in a safe position because this will have no effect on what Letang is worth at the moment. Letang isn't a UFA until after next season when the new CBA will be in place.

The new CBA could make anything players are paid now irrelevant or at least lower the bar once again. Also, by that time, one of either Despres or Morrow should have a spot on the team and might make that decision easier depending on how they perform.

Either way, I wouldn't worry about Letang at this time. I think it's safe to say that he's going to remain a Penguin at least through this season.

I'm pretty sure the top 4 is going to stay the same next year, and a good portion of posters will be disappointed.

Oh look at this interesting blurb in the PG....

NOTES -- The no-trade clauses veteran Penguins defensemen Brooks Orpik, Paul Martin and Zbynek Michalek have are of the limited variety, allowing each to name eight teams to which he cannot be traded.

Read more: http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/spo ... z1yPL9RjWb

So that changes everything.... they don't have to approve the team, they just cant be traded to one they picked. This makes trading Martin or either of them much easier I would think.

And - with Shero not wanting to talk about the no trade clause... and Martin in the paper today basically begging not to be traded, it sounds like he already gave his list.

All this means is that Shero can go to either three and say we are trading you, which teams don't you want to go too. Its not like these teams are set in stone at the time of the contract. Any time shero considers trading any of them he as to ask them who they don't want to be traded too

Nice work guys. thx. Didnt realize so many were under the floor. Looks like raises and bonuses will take care of most of those defecits. So I guess someone taking Martin on strictly as a salary add seems remote. Would have to be a contract coming back. :?: Most are $2 mil./ per player to sign or less. Which isn't a whole lot. Except for Phoenix which is over $3 mil./ per player to sign. Doan is sure to get a nice raise, even though he's on the decline being the face of the franchise. And they'll probably go after Suter or Parise. Or both.
Was hoping there was a team or two that'd be desperate to add salary, but it doesn't look that way.

Lots of teams will be under the floor when you don't count expiring contracts and don't factor in re-signing RFAs or UFA signings...I'd expect most teams to be under, but this isn't a fair time to judge that. It's like telling a team they're over the cap when they have all of their players called up for training camp...

Yeah thats what i said. With all the players these teams have to replace/resign, there's no team out there "desperate" need to take on salary.

Blues don't have too mnay big FA's this summer, they just have a ton of room. Martin under Hitchcock would do very well.

Yotes have a ton of space free, if we had to move a guy Michalek would fit in well there again.

Florida is anothe rplace where Martin would do well.

Carolina has the Cap space to take Staal and Martin.
