Assuming that Malkin and Crosby will be on the top unit does that leave Sutter centering the 2nd unit?
As the roster stands now with no Suter or Parise, you would see Neal, Kunitz, Crosby, malkin and Letang on the top unit and then Kennedy, Sutter, Dupuis, Martin and Niskanen on the 2nd unit.
Yuck.

If Parise signs, I honestly see two separate units built around the lines, with Letang staying on the ice for the majority of the 2 minutes.
Something like these...
Neal-Malkin-Kunitz-Letang-Sullivan (assuming he re-signs...which seems likely, per Molinari)
Parise-Crosby-Dupuis-Letang-Niskanen

I don't get it. Name me one team that doesn't have a considerable drop-off from the #1 unit to the #2 unit.

I don't think you can. And those two examples don't misprove my point.

You don't pay Parise top dollar to not play him on the top pp.

I like the idea of two units myself (if we get Parise). I think this forces each line to be productive during their short stint on the ice. Crosby and Malkin play the same spot as well. Plus, having the lines stay together means that Bylsma doesn't have to spend the next 2-3 shifts getting everything back in line.

I'm 90% sure Sutter played all situations for carolina, so I assume he'd be in. Also could be used in certain situations as the rh faceoff for the number 1.

The kings don't have a dropoff because their powerplay sucks. And you can't go on.

No worries. Malkin, Crosby, and Letang will continue to overextend themselves for the entire 2 minute powerplay. The only time you will really need to consider a second unit will be for the 20 seconds around the 3 minute mark of a 5 minute major.

Keep Malkin and Crosby together until Malkin signs long term, with or without Parise.

I miss the days when we only had to worry about our top unit.

I've always been for keep your top guys together, but if they add Parise.. they're just so loaded it make sense cause you can have 2 super units
Wouldn't even be 2 lines.. make it 1a / 1b
Could even probably easily slide guys back and forth between line 1 and 2 depending on who's fresh

You hope that the top line scores so you don't even get to the 2nd unit. The top unit typically stays out for 60-75% of the entire PP anyways.

I like 2 units - and starting with the second unit if 87 (or others) is finishing a long shift when we get the call. Many times last year we put a tired first unit on the ice - just because they're the top unit. After cahsing the puck up and down the ice for another 1:20 on the PP, they were really spent.
