Have you read half the posts in this thread and others like it? :pop:

I don't know...you seem to be going after straw men.

I'm sure that just about every Pens fan would like to see him in Pittsburgh.
Some have reservations about the cost and others would rather see the team concentrate on the blueline.

Or maybe you're just being sarcastic; there's so much trolling on the board these days, so it's hard to decipher. :)

Exactly. Parise is a good player and I would like the Pens to snag him. But he is not worth spending the money people are throwing around in this thread. He is no Crosby or Malkin. Especially when this team is ultra soft on defense going into next season.

If Parise wants more than $7,000,000...Pittsburgh shouldn't pay it. $7,000,000 is perfectly fair for him and what he would bring to this team...he's probably worth more than that...but we probably shouldn't chase it for sake of keeping Malkin and Tanger.

I still have trouble with the "D needs work now" argument. Yes, our D is a concern, but what's the point of drafting all these D-men and stock-piling them in the lower leagues? We can find help for this and next season, either now and/or at the trade deadline...but sooner or later, some of these guys will have to get real time in Pittsburgh. Despres, Morrow, Maatta, Harrington...these guys aren't just going to suddenly be top-4 guys...they'll need to work into it...and that could start as early as this season for a couple of them.

We're thin at forwards in the system...we're heavy on D. If you sign Parise, and have him, Crosby, Malkin, and Neal locked up LONG term...you have the D in the system to back them up and give us championship oppertunities year in and year out. For this reason, I'm content to stay in the "Parise is a priority over Suter" camp.

That's a healthy attitude. From all indications, shero is gonna go as high as 8 million per year to sign Parise. It won't be the highest offer but it will be competitive enough that the hope is he comes here. I can tell you this, he won't resign in NJ. Have you seen the news recently breaking in NJ? Brodeur just hired Crosby'a agent and has bailed because their financial situation is preventing them from offering contracts.

I really feel like this guy is already a Penguin, and I'm going to be shocked, pissed, and annoyed if he signs elsewhere.

I have been trying to do my best of keeping calm based on what happened with Hossa and you know who last year.

I think Bobby Ryan should be discussed a lot more given what Parise is going to sign for.

Therein lies the rub, you have to give up assets for Ryan. I'm not sure why people think we can just trade for a player of that caliber like it's as simple as getting the mail here...what assets do you think gets it done? Hint: They want a young top-2 centerman, another good young NHL player and a prospect and/or a high pick...

True, but that kid's hated the penguins his entire life. I'd be afraid of him not being 100% committed here. Maybe that's something stupid to worry about...but he's already been known to have attitude issues. But what do I know.

I understand your point that it would be a difficult deal to pull off, but the kid wants out of Anaheim. If it meant Bennett, a defenseman, and a pick I would look into it.

did he say something to this effect? the pens weren't on the flyers fans' radar before 2005 - after he was drafted, and being a fan was a luxury he gave up.

either way, unless anaheim wanted a handful of defense prospects, he's not in play.

See: "Hint" Or, would you take Peter Holland, Sheldon Brookbank and a pick for James Neal? Because if so, the Ducks would like to offer you a muffin basket as a thank you...

And there will be angry fans if Parise signs here for anything less than the league minimum. After all, Parise should be willing to pay for the privilege of playing alongside Sid.

All I know is, I will be pretty damn angry if the Pens let up 234092834092834 goals and get bounced in the first round in next seasons playoff.

I completely agree. I dont think signing Parise is a bad idea if the D is addressed

yeah, but suter isn't going to make a significant difference if the guys around him act like they did in the philly series. really, none of what we do in the UFA sweepstakes is going to matter in that sense.
