(Official) Free Agent and Offseason Discussion Thread

Postby Sam's Drunk Dog on Wed Jun 27, 2012 6:25 am

Since I was tired of reading through 12 threads that basically are discussing the same things, i decided to create this one.

Are you totally one of those people who says "round of applause" and proceeds to clap in a circle?

Why do we trade for Ott when we just received a third line center in Sutter?

What time does this all start on Sunday? Noon? Euro 2012 final is on Sunday too... NHL network still free on Comcast? NBC sports having coverage? looks like twitter might be the best way to go. How do those TSN guys always be one step ahead? got people in the know I guess. got bad feeling the labor talks starting on Friday may hurt the excitement in Sunday see another work stoppage comming and if the sheep came back last time then why not this time. Last work stoppage didn't hurt LGP any. Got any stats to back this ?

The twitter guys are the best, I'll be at work sadly but I'll have them up on the screen.

This years FA Class isn't nearly as exciting as it has been in past years. Once Suter/Parise/Semin/Doan are gone (1 or more to the Pens please!) the fireworks portion of the show is over. Will be interesting to see the tweaks GMs make on picking up the smaller fish.

Ott can and has played wing in Dallas.
I didn't see Sutta Brutha before he was drafted but CSB listed him RW/ C in their final rankings.

I'd recommend Renaud Lavoie of RDS. @RenLavoieRDS

He broke the news on quite a few trades last year and was the one who broke the Staal to CAR trade.

Bobby Mck said that Edm officials are meeting w/ J.Schulz today? How is that possible? He's UFA correct?

Completely on board with all the above. A few backup plans would include guys like Brad Boyes, Latendresse, Travis Moen and maybe Shane O'Brien. If you don't get Suter, I think I'd keep Martin ..... give him one more shot.

Why hasn't Parise signed with Pittsburgh yet? Fire Shero for his incompetence.

Ott would be a very interesting player to add I think. I would take him over Kennedy. A line with Cooke-Sutter-Ott would be a tenacious line to play against. Dallas is willing to trade him...I just wonder what it would take to get him?

I know Shero said Martin might stay, but on FA day, things could change quickly. If they get the D men they want, regardless if its Suter or Allen or Yandle etc, they may trade Martin to open up space. There is some interest in him, so why not send Martin for Ott (and maybe a pick) straight up. I think that's a very fair and even trade.

Unrestricted as a couple days ago. May talk to other teams as his rights were completely lost by Anaheim. May not sign before July 1. Difference between ordinary course UFA, they remain under contract until June 30. They may not talk to another team. Technically, as far as the Central Registry is concerned, Schultz has no NHL rights.

He's a busy man. If they gonna sign all these UFA's, they have to recoup the money somehow. Even if its "off the books". He's preparing the Consol for the new club the Pens are gonna unveil. He said something about these players making too much damn $$ for only working half the year. They need to do more.
So him and Mario decided theyre gonna open a male escort/strip club @ the Consol. It's gonna be named Sticks -n- Chix.
(double entendre on the sticks part of course)

Not sure how many threads will go to non-Pens signings...I've been throwing them into a NPR thread...

I'll just say that:
Wideman and Comeau are off the market, both Flames.
