If it again was 8.7, I would be so pumped that he didn't increase his cap hit and accepts it.

great news. locked up the best player in the world for the rest of his career at the exact same cap hit. can't really ask for anything better than that...

My respect level for Sidney Crosby went up a few more notches. Not that it wasn't already high. But we're completely aware and so is he, of what he could command from Montreal, Toronto and other teams that would pay out the butt.
He's signed for the rest of his career and the cap hit will not change. Have to go get him his winger now. Parise!

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Crosby's agent Pat Brisson of CAA Sports just told me the deal will be $104.4 million over 12 years

How long until we can turn on Crosby for killing the Pens with his contract and constant head injuries?

There's a bit of that now. Any relapse and it's open season for some.
To me, this is a great decision for all concerned. Now, let's lock up a winger and some help on defense.

He could have commanded that from Pittsburgh too, it doesn't really matter what market we're talking about. Any team in the league would pay him the max if he demanded it.

Somewhere out on his fishing trip Malkin is crying....
Curious to see how this floats next year with 71. Will he take the carbon copy deal like last time? I gamble to say... yes (assuming the new CBA allows such deals).

And, with all due respect to other great players, Crosby is the only player worth the max.

This is a fantastic example set by our Captain... Time for the rest of the core to follow suit. Is it better to make a couple million more per on the open market, or be part of something that could be very special for years to come... Only time will tell.
I am interested to see if Malkin will be ok with not receiving a raise, as Shero has already stated that no one will be making more than Sid?

As long as it isn't a front loaded contract there shouldn't be any problems.

Would you be okay with $104.4 million over 12 years? Geno knows it is Sid's team, he will follow suit.

i am very shocked! As others have said, my respect level for Crosby just went up.
We need more loyal players in the NHL. Hopefully Geno follows suit.
