I'm of the opinion that the American Finesse have the strongest roster with the Degloving Kings right behind them

An early favorite of the coaching staff, had experience even in the six-team league at the NHL level. One of the leaders among forwards in ice for the expansion Pens, a capable scorer that was a very good checker and was used a shadow against strong left wingers (like Bobby Hull). Also, a 2x NHL All-Star Game participant ('68 and '69).

Very happy to get, at this point in the draft,
RW Ken Schinkel

With the 52nd pick in the draft, the Degloving Kings are proud to select from Tingsrynd, Sweden:
Defenseman, Kjell Samuelsson
A large, right handed defenseman would compliment Bodger rather nicely or Orpik for that matter. His defense first mentality is something I needed on my blueline,

With the 53rd pick, I'm proud to select Syosset, New York's own Rob Scuderi.

I'll take LW Battleship Bob Kelly with the last pick of this round. The prototypical fighter that could also score goals.

And with the first pick of round 10, I'm taking the "other" #71, defenseman and politician Jiri Slegr.

It pains me to make this pick. Absolutely pains me. Alex Goligoski. :-(

I figured Goose would've slipped more.

Same here. The sequence of Scuderi, Slegr, Gogo is kind of unexpected.

With the 57th pick in the draft, the Degloving Kings are proud to select from Scituate, Massachusetts:
Defenseman, Ryan Whitney
Say what you will about Ryan Whitney, he was a good not great defenseman. He fits into my top 4 and can easily QB a powerplay. He is not overly physical for his size but is not afraid of contact. This pick may be a stretch, but with the recent purge of available defenseman my hand was forced.

Imo he's ahead of Scuderi, Slegr, and Gogo.

I have about 3 to 4 guys that I would have ahead of that group.

I'm drafting according to what I need to build my team, not necessarily "the best player". Whitney didn't fit what I wanted.

And the guy I'm picking, I think is right up there in Ryan Whitney territory. I just can't think of a way to beat this peak season (1986) with anything else available or recently picked for that matter (edit: maybe Whitney's '07). Major minute muncher, Olympian, played in all situations, great transition defenseman and power play QB...

I also have at least a couple. Additionally, I think Whitney was one of the best value picks in quite a while. He was next on my list. I figured at some point, someone will make me choose between Whitney and Mantha (same basic purpose, Mantha played more time but he was kind of forced into it more than Whitney was because of the caliber of teams they were on respectively). Whitney probably should have went at least a full round ago.

Whitney was irrationally disliked for so long that people forget he was actually pretty good.
